Pyongyang, August 18 (KCNA) -- The visiting delegation of the World Peace Council held a meeting for solidarity with the Korean people at the People's Palace of Culture on Monday.

Present there was the delegation of the council headed by its President Socorro Gomes.

Attending it were Mun Jae Chol, chairman of the National Peace Committee of Korea and acting chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, officials concerned and working people in the city of Pyongyang.

Mun Jae Chol said at the meeting that though the separatist forces at home and abroad are maneuvering in every way to push the north-south relations to confrontation, the Korean people remain steadfast in their will to open a new era of independent reunification, peace and prosperity in the idea of "By our nation itself."

The Korean people will surely build a great prosperous and powerful reunified nation in this land, true to the Songun politics of General Secretary Kim Jong Il, he stressed.

Socorro Gomes said that the Korean people defended the sovereignty of the country by displaying their inexhaustible mental power and unrivaled bravery under the wise leadership of President
Kim Il Sung. This serves as an example for the world people to follow, he added.

He strongly demanded that the United States abandon its hostile policy towards the DPRK, pull all armed forces out of south Korea and replace the Armistice Agreement with a peace accord.

Iraklis Tsavdaridis, executive secretary of the council, and Binayak Bhattacharyya, member of the council, denounced the Ulji Freedom Guardian joint military exercises being staged by the U.S. imperialists and their followers, contending that threat to peace and security of the Korean Peninsula comes from the imperialists' aggression moves.
