Members of Jongyojo Go on Indefinite Hunger Strike
Pyongyang, August 18 (KCNA) -- More than 200 chairpersons of branches of the Teachers Union (Jongyojo) from all the parts of south Korea entered an indefinite hunger strike in Seoul on Aug. 14 in protest against the puppet authorities' crackdown upon unionists on charge of their participation in the actions to issue teachers' declaration on the situation.

They held a meeting before the hunger strike.

The chairman of Jongyojo, addressing the meeting, accused the present "government" of kicking off "the operation to destroy Jongyojo" as evidenced by the heavy disciplinary measure taken against its 89 leading members under the pretext of the movement for issuing declarations on the situation, etc. declaring that the organization would wage a stubborn struggle against the conservative ruling forces' crackdown.

He stressed that the organization would launch a large-scale struggle to judge the Lee Myung Bak "government" by calling a hunger strike.

In another development, more than 20 members of the central executive committee of Jongyojo who had been dismissed by the authorities for participating in the movement for issuing declarations on the situation went on an indefinite hunger strike at Jogye Temple in Seoul.
