Normalization of Japan-DPRK Relations Urged
Pyongyang, August 14 (KCNA) -- A national general meeting of "the Liaison Council for Demanding Denuclearization and Peace in North East Asia and Normalization of the Relations between Japan and the DPRK" was held in Tokyo on July 24.

Present at the meeting were figures of the council and organizations for friendship between Japan and the DPRK in different parts of Japan.

Koichi Ishizaka, co-representative and secretary general of the council, in his report informed the participants of the activities conducted by the council last year in demand of the government's lifting of its sanctions against the DPRK, stop to the suppression of Koreans in Japan, etc. and proposed tasks to be fulfilled by the council in the future.

He noted that the council is faced with the tasks to build up public opinion calling for Japan's settlement of its past crimes, open a meeting for the normalization of the relations between Japan and the DPRK and consolidate the liaison council and request the Japanese government to ensure the basic rights of the Koreans in Japan and recognize their right to national education, etc.

There was a report on the activities of organizations for friendship between Japan and the DPRK and the results of the election of officials of the council were made public at the meeting.

A lecture on the situation on the Korean Peninsula was also given there.

An appeal was adopted at the meeting.
