Release of Arrested Evacuees Urged in S. Korea
Pyongyang, August 14 (KCNA) -- The All-people Measure Committee against the Brutal Murder of Evacuees in Ryongsan of south Korea called a press conference in Seoul on Aug. 11, demanding that the puppet authorities immediately release the evacuees in Ryongsan who have been detained for the reason that they conducted a struggle to defend their right to existence.

In a press release, the organization referred to the fact that the Seoul Central District Court is staging a trial of six evacuees detained under the accusation of "interference in the fulfillment of special duties."

Noting that the evacuees' struggle was just and they are innocent of such "charge", the organization urged the prosecution authorities to open to the public the investigation records.

The petition calling for their release has been signed by 250,000 members of different organizations and citizens, it said, contending that the authorities should set free the evacuees at once.

At the end of the press conference, representatives of the organization presented the petition to the Seoul Central District Court.
