Police's Suppression of Unionists' Strike Flailed in S. Korea
Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the Pan-National Alliance for Korea's Reunification issued a statement on August 7 denouncing the south Korean puppet police for taking a repressive measure against the unionists of Ssangyong Motor Co. who staged a strike in demand of the guarantee of the right to existence.

The statement accused the police authorities of arresting on charges of committing crimes 458 persons including unionists of the above-said company when they were coming out of it at the end of the strike and media persons who were covering their action.

How can the action staged by the unionists in protest against the management side's step to deprive them of their right to existence be branded as a crime? the statement queried, noting that the Lee Myung Bak regime and the management side were to blame for the crisis of Ssangyong Motor Co. as they were keen to destroy the trade union by pursuing a reckless economic policy to meet their interests only.

Strongly demanding the authorities not punish the protesters but let them reunite with their families at once, the statement called upon people of all strata in south Korea to turn out in the actions to force the Lee Myung Bak regime to step down as it has driven the people's livelihood to destitution and workers to death.

Meanwhile, civic and public organizations including the Solidarity for Progress of south Korea, the Citizen's Solidarity for Democratic Society and the Joint Conference of Human Rights Organizations held a press conference in Seoul to urge the police authorities to retract the repressive measure.
