Sohung Lake in Mountains
Pyongyang, August 8 (KCNA) -- The Sohung Lake is called a "sea" in mountains in DPRK.

The man-made lake completed in July of Juche 50 (1961) is surrounded by Sohung, Pongsan, Unpha and Rinsan counties in North Hwanghae Province.

Its catchment area covers more than 700 square kilometers, where oak, chestnut, Populus Maximowiczii, linden and other trees grow densely, making good watershed protection conditions.

Its main source of water is atmospheric precipitation and the Sohung River and its ten or more tributary streams flow into the lake.

The lake is the main source of water of the irrigation system in the Lake Sohung area. Its water irrigates tens of thousands of hectares of farmland in Sariwon, Pongsan, Yonthan, Unpha, Songrim and Hwangju along a 1 400km-long waterway.

There are rest centers and children's camp in scenic spots around the lake.

President Kim Il Sung named it Lake Sohung.
