Calligraphic Exhibition Opens
Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- A calligraphic exhibition was opened with due ceremony at the Pyongyang International Cultural Center Thursday to mark the 50th anniversary of the Formation of the Union of Korean Writers and Artists in Japan.

Displayed in the venue of the exhibition are more than 60 calligraphic works presented by calligraphers and calligraphy lovers of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon).

Calligraphic works including letters and excellent sentences profound in contents and strong in appeal written in various styles including Chongbong style and lyric verses and others clearly show the progress made by Chongryon in calligraphy.

Among them are works including "My Country, My Homeland", "Single-Minded Unity", "Great Prosperous and Powerful Nation" and "A Fleet Steed" representing the warm love of the officials and compatriots of Chongryon for the socialist homeland demonstrating the dignity and might of the country and the nation by dint of Songun under the great leadership of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

Also on display are works reflecting the faith and will of the Koreans in Japan to breathe the same breath with the people in the homeland on the road of patriotism and works calling upon all Koreans to turn out in a sacred struggle for reunification, united close under the banner of "By our nation itself."

Among those present at the ceremony were Han Chol, vice- minister of Culture, Kim Song Min, chairman of the Central Committee of the Artists Union of Korea, members of the delegation of the Union of Korean Writers and Artists in Japan headed by its Chairman Kim Jong Su, officials concerned, art creators, calligraphers and calligraphy lovers in Pyongyang and students of Pyongyang University of Fine Arts.

Kim Jong Su in his opening address said that his union would creditably fulfill its mission and duty in the struggle to develop the movement of Koreans in Japan and the literature and art of Chongryon and produce more calligraphic works of great cognitive and educational value.
