Kwijin Temple
Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- Kwijin Temple in Songwol-ri, Sohung County of North Hwanghae Province is one of the famous temples in Korea.

It was built in the middle of the 12th century and rebuilt in the 16th century. Originally there were several buildings around the Kukrak Hall. But now remain the Kukrak Hall, Juak Pavilion and Simgom Hall.

The gable-roofed Kukrak Hall was built with large structural parts as a whole. It has four pillars each in the front and in the flank. Its stone stylobate is nearly two meters high and has stone steps in the front.

More than 2,000 wood blocks for printing Buddhist book were preserved in the Simgom Hall. They are known as the oldest ones out of the wood blocks that have been discovered.

The "Ryonggamsugyong" (Buddhist dictionary) published in 997 is a valuable datum in studying the history of printing technology development in Korea. Its wooden printing blocks were carried away by the Japanese imperialists in 1931 and some remainders are kept in the Myohyangsan History Museum.

The temple serves as a precious material to study the then architecture.
