General Strike of Press Trade Union Supported in S. Korea
Pyongyang, July 25 (KCNA) -- The Teachers Union of south Korea (Jongyojo) issued a statement on July 21 in support of the Press Trade Union now on a general strike protesting against the Lee Myung Bak group's moves to railroad the evil bill on media through the "National Assembly."

The statement said:

Its general strike is a struggle to defend democracy from the authorities' moves to put all media under the control of conservative media and big businesses in a bid to ensure their long-term office.

The Lee group replaced the chiefs of important media institutions with its confidants in an effort to put the media under its control from the outset of its office and took fascist actions to suppress the media organizations and persons incurring its displeasure.

The desperate moves of the Lee group to enact an evil law on media are aimed to blindfold and deafen the people who wish to know truth and use media as a means for the upkeep of its power and thus mislead the public opinion and reinforce its power base.

Expressing positive support for the members of the Press Trade Union in their general strike to defend democracy in defiance of crackdown and persecution, the statement declared that Jongyojo would struggle in solidarity with their action.
