South Korean Authorities' Suppression of Teachers Slammed
Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) -- The Teachers' Union of south Korea (Jongyojo) issued the second declaration on the situation on July 19. It was signed by at least 28,600 teachers throughout it.

The declaration accused the authorities of becoming ever more undisguised in cracking down upon those who participated in the first campaign to issue a declaration on the situation, branding this as a blatant abuse of power.

It urged the Lee Myung Bak regime to roll back the unjust educational policy which only advocates "competition is all powerful" and lift the measures to punish the participants of the above-said campaign as early as possible.

The chairman of Jongyojo said: Teachers are thrown behind bars, their houses searched and punished for the mere reason that they urged the authorities to lend an ear to the voices of people. Even under this situation they have waged an indomitable struggle and signed the declaration on the situation for the democratization of the society.

Neither dictatorship nor suppression by the authorities can overpower the people united close as one, he declared.
