New Landscape of Countryside
Pyongyang, June 30 (KCNA) -- The fields of the DPRK get conspicuous these days.

Wheat, barley and potato plants are swaying in the wind in fields and the paddy fields turn green with the transplantation of rice-seedlings.

Meanwhile, the potato fields are being converted into soy-bean ones.

Farmers are engaged in reaping the first crops--potato, wheat and barley-- and planting after-crops in fields.

The new scenery showing spring and autumn proves the correctness of the Workers' Party of Korea's policy of double cropping.

General Secretary Kim Jong Il put forward the policy of doing double-crop farming in a big way and clearly indicated the orientation and way for its implementation, saying that one of the important reserves for increased grain production in the DPRK where the arable land is limited is to do double-and triple-crop farming a year.

The two-crop system has been introduced on all the farms throughout the country.

The double-and triple-crop farming is being done on the Tongbong Co-op Farm in Hamju County, the Township Co-op Farm in Janggang County and other farms in east coastal areas and in the northern mountainous areas, to say nothing of the plain areas of west coastal areas which were rezoned as land befitting socialist Korea in the Songun era.
