Suppression of Campus Movement Protested in S. Korea
Pyongyang, June 29 (KCNA) -- Organizations of different circles in south Korea issued statements on June 25 in denunciation of the puppet authorities' scheme to stifle the campus movement.

The Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration in its statement noted that on June 24 the police hurriedly arrested the ex-chairman of the Seoul District Federation of University Student Councils (Sochongryon) under Hanchongryon (south Korean Federation of University Student Councils) on charges of violating the "National Security Law".

Earlier, the Lee Myung Bak "government" arrested Ri Hui Chol, chairman of 8th-term Hanchongryon, and others involved in the youth and student movement in the past one after another and searched their houses while getting evermore pronounced in the repressive campaign under the pretext of security, it charged.

It pointed out that the security authorities are frantically investigating even into the past case and bringing harsh suppression on those youth and student activists in a bid to quell the surging indignation of the people at the present "government".

The Youth and Students Solidarity for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration in its statement denounced the violent repression by the authorities as a scheme to crack down upon the youth and students taking the lead in the anti-"government" struggle and stifle the campus movement.

All the youth and students should more vigorously wage the overall struggle for forcing the Lee Myung Bak "government" to resign, it said, urging the Lee group to set free the ex-chairman of Sochongryon and other youth and student activists at once.
