Figures of British political circles noted with high appreciation that Kim Jong Il has strengthened the WPK into the party of President Kim Il Sung and led the showdown with the United States and the building of a thriving nation to a shining victory and that he provided the inter-Korean summit meeting, the first of its kind in the history of Korean nation's division, and the adoption of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration.
