A declaration read out at the ceremony recalled that after the publication of the June 15 joint declaration all fellow countrymen vigorously struggled to open the new era of independent reunification, peace and prosperity under the banner of "By our nation itself."

The achievements in the movement for inter-Korean reconciliation, cooperation and reunification were nullified overnight after the Lee Myung Bak regime emerged, exposing the Korean Peninsula to the danger of war and tension, the statement said, and went on:

The U.S. is putting forward the Lee regime as a shock brigade in executing its strategy for domination of Korea, while talking about "dialogue" and "reconciliation". However, it is intensifying sanctions against the DPRK and war moves to bring it down behind the scene, threatening peace of this land.

We, youth and students should firmly defend the south-north joint declarations and thoroughly implement them in order to put an end to the Lee Myung Bak fascist regime and open up the new era of independent reunification, peace and prosperity.
