The county was a remote mountainous area where fire-field peasants and workers of lumber camps lived before the liberation of the country. But today educational, cultural and welfare facilities which will not be inferior to distant future ones and cozy dwelling houses for hundreds of households have been constructed in rows and in peculiar forms.

In accordance with the new change in potato farming modern potato processing bases and pig farms have been built there.

With the construction of the Taehongdan Power Station No. 5 and some others the night view of the county town is bewitchingly beautiful for its street lamp light and electricity decorations.

The parks and places bedecked with colorful electric lights are crowded with young men and women who are taking rest after work.

The sea of potato-flowers at Taehongdan is worthy of seeing. It is called one of the nine sceneries of Songun in the DPRK.
