World Environment Day Marked
Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- The World Environment Day (June 5) was observed in the DPRK.

A symposium on rural energy and climate change was held in Unha-ri, Unjon County, North Phyongan Province, under the sponsorship of the Pyongyang International Information of New Technology and Economy Center (PIINTEC).

Addressing the symposium, the director of the PIINTEC said that today the global environmental protection is raised as a matter of concern common to the humankind. It is a pressing task to prevent ecological destruction and natural disasters which are getting worse day by day due to the climate change, especially global warming caused by the greenhouse gas emission, he stressed.

He noted that the further the society and economy develop, the more important the environmental protection becomes, emphasizing that the government's policy of protecting environment should be implemented to the letter to bring about a turn in this undertaking.

Meanwhile, a photo exhibition and composition contest on the theme "Future of Our Planet" were held in the Pyongyang Students and Children's Palace.

The participants looked round the photos showing the beautiful natural environment of Korea and natural disasters in the world caused by the global warming before the composition contest.
