Bolstering of Self-Defence Capability Called for
Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- The United States instigated the UNSC to adopt the brigandish "presidential statement" and then impose sanctions on the DPRK over its launch of satellite last April. The UNSC has recently set in motion the sanctions, pursuant to the U.S. sinister scheme to suffocate the DPRK's defence industry and deter its bolstering of self-defence capability.

Recalling this fact, Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says in a by-lined article that it is as foolish and futile an act as cutting blocks with a razor to attempt to frighten the DPRK with the stick called sanctions.

It goes on:

A series of developments witnessed in the international arena in recent years show how important it is for each nation to build up the defence capability by its own efforts so as to stand in confrontation with imperialism.

To the imperialists, military muscle is a yardstick discriminating between the strong and the weak. They become diffident before the strong but outrageous before the weak.

The confrontation with the imperialists is just showdown. That is why each country and nation should build up their military muscle to win in the showdown with the imperialists and defend their sovereignty.

If each nation is not to stand on the defensive but take the initiative in the showdown with the imperialists, it should possess its military capability equipped with both powerful defensive and offensive means based on modern military technology.

Only possession of powerful offensive means makes it possible for each nation to contain any military attack by aggressors and emerge victorious. This is the lesson and truth drawn from the modern history of wars.

To the Korean people, self-defence capability just means their sovereignty and right to existence and fundamental guarantee for defending socialism.

We will further increase our military capability for self-defence to cope with the U.S. imperialists and their followers' more arrogant moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK.
