Victorious Musan Area Battle at End of Arduous March
Pyongyang, May 23 (KCNA) -- Seventy years have passed since the Musan area battle (May 1939) was conducted under the command of President Kim Il Sung during the anti-Japanese armed struggle.

It was a historic battle which proved with the sound of gunshots for annihilating the enemy the fact that though the Japanese imperialists loudly talked about the "destruction" of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA), it not only was healthy but became as tough as steel through the Arduous March and was wiping out the enemy.

Grave was the situation in the later half of the 1930s.

Many revolutionary organizations in Korea suffered serious damage and their members arrested by the Japanese imperialists through the "Hyesan incident". The revolutionary movement in the homeland was undergoing trials.

On top of this, the enemy continued to spread the lie that the KPRA had perished, whereby some people were losing confidence.

The President, with deep grasp of the prevailing situation, launched the Arduous March unprecedented in history from December 1938 to March 1939 by leading the main unit of the KPRA to keep the Korean revolution in upsurge.

The march covering from Nanpaizi to Beidadingzi was a march of grave ordeals that the guerrillas had to carry out through man-high heavy snowfall in 100 years and in the biting cold of around 40 degrees below zero, coupled with shortage of provisions and was a sanguinary march during which they had to fight day and night.

During the period, the Japanese imperialists made desperate efforts to "totally annihilate" the KPRA, but sustained defeat. On the contrary, the revolutionary army was strengthened as an invincible rank through the hard-fought battles and trials.

The President convened the KPRA cadres' meeting at Beidadingzi in April 1939 at the successful conclusion of the march and put forward a new policy to deal blows to the Japanese imperialist aggressors one after another and advance into the homeland.

The KPRA which advanced into the homeland according to the operational plan of the President annihilated the enemy troops in and around Singaechok and Taehongdan plain and victoriously concluded the Musan area battle, thus demonstrating the might of the revolutionary army which had become as tough as steel through the Arduous March.

Workers, peasants and other people of other strata joined the anti-Japanese revolution with a firm faith that a new day of national liberation would be sure to come as long as there was the KPRA.

The historic Musan area battle will shine long along with the immortal exploits of the President.
