Reconstructed Pyongyang Grand Theatre
Pyongyang, May 16 (KCNA) -- The Pyongyang Grand Theatre located on a picturesque bank of Taedong River was wonderfully reconstructed as a centre for the cultural and emotional life of the people.

The theatre, opened in August of Juche 49 (1960), is the cradle of the opera revolution where "The Sea of Blood"-style revolutionary opera was created and a historical building where many literary and artistic works were created and performed.

The Korean-style gable roof tiles of the theatre were replaced with new one and the walls of the building were facelifted with special building materials and embossed decorations. Its inner structure was given modern architectural beauty without any change.

The ceiling of the central hall is decorated with eight fairies of Mt. Kumgang flying in the sky, its wall ornaments in relief glitter with golden color and the ceiling lighting is indirect one.

The large-sized chandeliers were set up newly on the ceiling of the entrance hall, the columns standing on the granite-floor were clad with building materials with special color and the walls were embossed with magnolia and other flowers.

All the ceiling illuminations faced the stage and the aisles were transformed from tiers to gentle slope.

The theatre has an auditorium with more than 1 300 seats, stage, sound and lighting facilities, various training rooms, makeup rooms, catering and hygienic facilities.

In particular, the modern intonation facility, amplifiers, efficient loud-speakers provide stereoscopic effect of the sound and high quality of sound.

The opening and closing ceremonies of the 26th April Spring Friendship Art Festival and performances of the art troupes from various countries were held in the reconstructed theatre.

The theatre, which is well harmonized with national classic beauty and modern beauty, elegance, grandeur and exquisiteness, gives great delight and optimism to the visitors as a wonderful cultural palace in the Songun era.
