U.S. Wholly to Blame for New Global Arms Race
Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- Recently, U.S. Secretary of Defense Gates announced that the U.S. is contemplating spending 534 billion U.S. dollars for the defense purpose in the fiscal 2010. This is much bigger than the total defense spending of 25 countries of the world or about a four percent increase over the defense budget in the fiscal 2009.

Rodong Sinmun Wednesday observes in a signed commentary in this regard:

The U.S. stepped-up arms expansion is an act of disturbing peace as it escalates the worldwide arms race and military confrontation while aggravating the international situation.

Citing facts to prove that a big share of the U.S. defense spending goes to the development and production of new type weapons, the commentary says this compels other countries to develop weapons to counter them.

The U.S. is chiefly to blame for the new global arms race, the commentary notes, and goes on:

The U.S. has neither right nor justification to say this or that about the efforts of other countries to bolster their capabilities for self-defence.

As the financial crisis that hit hard the world economy originated from the U.S. it will be a proper attitude for the present U.S. administration to opt for the arms reduction, owning due responsibility for it.

If the U.S. is truly interested in ensuring the world peace, it should refrain from the actions of encouraging and escalating the new arms race.

However, the U.S. is behaving quite contrary to this. By doing so, it is revealing itself the fact that it is the most irresponsible country in ensuring the world peace and weathering the economic crisis and the root cause of sparking off arms race and the danger of war.

The U.S. is in the hostile relationship with the DPRK. Not a small share of the U.S. defense spending is channeled into the moves to threaten the DPRK militarily and invade it.

It is, therefore, entirely just and essential for the DPRK to continue bolstering up its capability for self-defence to cope with the increasing U.S. military threat.
