Symposium in Field of Social Science Held
Pyongyang, April 24 (KCNA) -- A symposium in the field of social science was held on April 23 to mark the 20th anniversary of President Kim Il Sung's visit to the Mausoleum of King Tongmyong.

He scientifically ascertained that the mausoleum in Ryongsan-ri, Ryokpho District, Pyongyang was that of King Tongmyong, the founder of Koguryo. He visited it on April 2, Juche 78 (1989) and clearly indicated the orientation and ways for rebuilding it.

All the parts and facilities of the mausoleum and its surroundings were restored to meet the architectural needs of Koguryo, suited to the stature of its founding father thanks to his noble patriotic intention and wise leadership.

General Secretary Kim Jong Il settled all the problems arising in rebuilding the mausoleum as a treasure of the country in the era of the Workers' Party as planned and intended by Kim Il Sung.

Presented at the symposium were papers explaining and proving the leadership feats performed by Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il in wisely leading the work to successfully rebuild the mausoleum and the position and role of Koguryo in the development of the history of the Korean nation.

Speakers explained and proved the fact that Koguryo demonstrated its might as a sovereign state strong in independence from the very day of its foundation and a power that existed in the East for 1,000 years.

They also explained the fact that the fame of King Tongmyong was widely known not only in those days but the story about it was subsequently conveyed to the periods of Koryo and Ri Dynasty, making him an object of worship by the feudal ruling class and an ideological and moral icon for maintaining state power.

They stressed the need to glorify the undying leadership feats performed by Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il in preserving the nation's cultural heritages.

Present at the symposium were Thae Hyong Chol, president of the Academy of Social Science, and others.
