Relics of Grass Crafts Rich in National Flavor
Pyongyang, April 21 (KCNA) -- An exhibition of relics of grass crafts is open at the Korean Folklore Museum.

On display are more than 100 pieces of relics belonging to the Ri Dynasty (1392-1910).

They are classified into mats (rush-mat, cushion and others), tableware (nest of boxes for keeping food, bamboo strainer, tray made of bush-clover, terrapin-shaped bottle, wine cup, etc.), dresses (reed hat, rattan undershirt, wicker suitcase, etc.), farming tools (basket, deep round grain-basket woven of straw, etc.), room articles for daily use (fan and blind) and others. There are also bamboo and paper crafts.

Drawing the attention of the visitors are such mats as sedge mats, reed mats, bulrush mats, rice straw mats and wild reed mats.

Sedge mats with flower-patterns were very popular for their clean color and softness from olden times and they found their way to neighboring countries.

Director of the folklore museum An Sun Chol told KCNA:

The Korean people have made and used wonderful grass craft works through their creative activities and tireless efforts from long ago.

The relics of grass crafts on display now are mainly made of stalks, roots, barks and leaves of various plants such as sedge, bulrush, willow, bamboo, bush-clover, rice straw, reed and kaoliang.

The exhibition will be open till October 31.
