Mangyongdae Prize Marathon Race Held
Pyongyang, April 12 (KCNA) -- The IAAF-22nd Mangyongdae Prize Marathon Race was held here on Sunday on the occasion of the Day of the Sun.

An opening ceremony took place at the Kim Il Sung Stadium.

Present there were Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kwak Pom Gi, vice-premier of the Cabinet, Tong Jong Ho, minister of Construction and Building-Materials Industry who is also chairman of the DPRK Marathon Association, officials concerned and working people in the city.

Among those present were marathoners of the DPRK, China, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Botswana, Kenya and Namibia.

Pak Hak Son, chairman of the Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission, made an opening address.

Then followed the race.

After leaving the starting line men and women marathoners ran the course of the race through Hyoksin, Yongung, Chollima, Rakwon and Kwangbok Streets.

At the race Wang Zemin of China and Phyo Un Suk of the DPRK came first, Reinhold Lita of Namibia and Kim Kum Ok of the DPRK second and Jackson Kipchoge Rono of Kenya and Jong Yong Ok of the DPRK third.

At the closing ceremony the results of the race were published and prizes were conferred on marathoners who gave good accounts of themselves.
