Sea Bird Sanctuaries in North Phyongan Province
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- There are many sea bird sanctuaries on the coast of North Phyongan Province.

Flocks of such sea birds as blackfaced spoonbill, yellow-beaked white heron and gull inhabit the sea bird sanctuaries on Taegam Islet, Kwaksan County.

The blackfaced spoonbill lays 4 to 6 eggs in March and flies away to the wintering site in October or November.

Tens of thousands of gulls always flock the seabird breeding site on Rap Islet off Sonchon County.

Mounds of gull eggs spread a spectacular scene there in May and June.

There is a yellow-beaked white heron breeding site on Muki Islet far to the southwest of Sinmi Island.

Various species of sea birds are propagating in the sea-bird breeding site on Chamcha Islet and sea-bird sanctuary on Unmu Islet.

Chamcha Islet is a spring and summer intensive breeding site of such sea birds as gulls and shearwater.

The DPRK registered these areas as sea-bird sanctuaries long ago and has shown deep care for them.
