Success of Marathoners in New Century
Pyongyang, March 4 (KCNA) -- Marathoners of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have proved themselves in international contests in new century with a firm will to display the mettle of socialist Korea.

Ham Pong Sil (female) won the gold medal in the women's half marathon game of the 21st Universiad held in Beijing in September, Juche 90 (2001) and also won the women's marathon game of the 14th Asiad held in October 2002.

Kim Kum Ok came first in the 11th Asian Marathon Championships held in Hong Kong in February 2008 following 10th Asian Marathon Championships held in Beijing in October 2006. She also won the gold medal in the women's half marathon game of the 24th Universiad held in Bangkok in August 2007.

Ri Kum Song (male) bagged the gold medal in the 26th Macao International Marathon Race, Phyo Un Suk (female) won the consecutive 25th and 26th Macao international marathon races held in December 2006 and 2007.

Marathoners of the DPRK won more than 60 gold, silver and copper medals in over 40 international games in the new century.
