Greening and Gardening Campaign Gets Brisk
Pyongyang, March 2 (KCNA) -- Working people from all walks of life and school youth and children are turning out in tree-planting campaign as one on the occasion of the Tree-planting Day.

President Kim Il Sung, together with General Secretary Kim Jong Il and anti-Japanese heroine
Kim Jong Suk, climbed Moran Hill on March 2, Juche 35 (1946) and unrolled a far-reaching plan to create forests.

It marked the beginning of a new history of afforestation in the DPRK.

Covered with trees are mountains and fields of the country from the foot of Mt. Paektu, the sacred mountain of the revolution, to the military demarcation line and from the eastern coast to the western coast.

Sapling fields have been arranged well in different parts of the country, which produce lots of saplings of good species every year to be transplanted in streets, villages, mountains and fields. As a result, the work of greening and gardening is being done on a high level.

All the mountains in Changsong County, North Phyongan Province, have turned into "golden mountain" and "treasure mountain".

Spectacular are the one thousand and hundreds of hectares of pine-nut tree forest and over 10,000 hectares of oak forest created in the mountains in the county including Yaksu-ri and Okpho-ri.

The mountains are covered with larch, black walnut and wild pear trees, Korean pepper bush, Schizandra chinensis and other various kinds of trees and the valleys with wild grapes and tara vines.

The mountains in Riwon County, South Hamgyong Province with over 100 hectares of pine-nut tree forests are a pride of the Songun era.

The tree-planting campaign is being briskly undertaken everywhere in the country including Yonthan County in North Hwanghae Province, Thaethan County and Pyoksong County in South Hwanghae Province and Kangwon Province, changing the appearance of the country beyond recognition day by day.
