National Meeting of Korean Children's Union Organizations Held
Pyongyang, February 16 (KCNA) -- A national meeting of the Korean Children's Union organizations was held at the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium on Feb. 16 to celebrate the birthday of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

Attending it were delegates of the union from provinces and its members in Pyongyang.

Present there on invitation were Choe Thae Bok, Yang Hyong Sop and officials concerned, officials concerned and party and youth league officials, war veterans and persons of merits in Pyongyang.

Ri Yong Chol, first secretary of the C.C., the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, said in his report at the meeting that the birth of Kim Jong Il as the son of guerrillas in Mt. Paektu, the sacred mountain of the revolution, was great fortune of Korea and a great auspicious event of the nation that heralded the bright future of the revolutionary cause of Juche. With this historic February the Korean people could advance along the road of victorious Songun while being blessed with the illustrious leaders through generations, he added.

The reporter extended the warmest congratulations and the highest glory to Kim Jong Il, who has defended the beautiful dreams and future of rising generations, carrying deep reverence of all the union members.

A ceremony of joining the KCU took place at the meeting.

Led by Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, pupils to join the union took an admission oath in front of the KCU flag.

Officials, war veterans and persons of merits put red ties around the necks of new entrants and badges on their chests.

Then, congratulatory speeches were made by Kim Tong Chun, a war veteran, Dr. Jon Sung Guk, associate professor of Kim Chaek University of Technology, and Hero of the DPRK Jong Song Ok who is People's Sportswoman.

They called upon all the union members to firmly believe in and follow Kim Jong Il always and anywhere and prepare themselves to be true sons and daughters of Songun Korea with ample knowledge, high morality and strong body, true to the oath made in front of the KCU flag.
