National Folk Games Contest of Schoolchildren
Pyongyang, January 24 (KCNA) -- A national folk games contest of schoolchildren (January 22-26) is going on at Kim Il Sung Square and other places of Pyongyang on the occasion of the lunar New Year's Day.

Participated in the contest are hundreds of schoolchildren selected at the folk games contests held in Pyongyang City and Jagang, Ryanggang, North and South Phyongan and other provinces.

The participants give full play to their stunt and technique, leaving deep impression on the spectators.

The kite-flying contest includes team event in which ten players from each unit fly and manipulate kites simultaneously, the event of flying kites higher, the event of showing kite-flying stunt and the like.

In the shuttlecock playing contest the players compete how long they kick a shuttlecock without letting it fall to the ground and what stunts they show while playing it. Among the events of the national contest are rope skipping, kkoni game and counting sticks game for improving composure, minute observation and mental faculties. The contest shows well the vivacious and optimistic life of the schoolchildren.

Since every Saturday was set as day of playing folk games at all middle and primary schools last year, the folk games became more popular among the schoolchildren.
