Minsok Street in Sariwon
Pyongyang, January 23 (KCNA) -- Minsok (folklore) Street of peculiar style thick with national flavor is located at the foot of picturesque Mt. Kyongam in Sariwon City, North Hwanghae Province.

There are a historical material display ground, a folk amusement centre and a history museum along the street stretching gracefully on both sides of the street gate roofed with Korean tiles.

Orderly exhibited in the ground are a model of dolmen, a model of the Chomsongdae Observatory which is known to be the oldest remain of astronomical observatory in the world and other models of typical cultural heritages along with visual-aid materials showing the time-honored history spanning 5,000 years, fine cultural tradition, and resourceful talent of the nation, which heighten national pride among Koreans.

All the rooms of the folk amusement centre fully equipped with facilities for the visitors to play yut-game, paduk and janggi (Korean chess) are floor-heated after the traditional fashion of the nation.

The Korean costume shop in the folklore street is animate with customers as it serves well-made Korean costumes catering to the tastes of women.

The conspicuous figure of the street is sharply outlined by the Koryo medicine store which serves various Koryo medicines widely used by the Koreans from olden times as well as medicinal herbs gathered in different areas of North Hwanghae Province.

There are found in the street restaurants serving folk dishes such as glutinous rice-cake and pancake.

General Secretary Kim Jong Il, though finding his days so full with Songun revolutionary leadership, visited the folklore street in December last year and acquainted himself in detail with how it was constructed and run and gave precious instructions to add luster to the long history, culture and tradition of the nation.
