48-Hour People's Emergency Action Staged in Seoul
Pyongyang, December 31 (KCNA) -- People from all walks of life in south Korea launched a "48-hour people's emergency action to check Lee Myung Bak's moves to railroad evil bills against people's living and democracy" in Seoul on Dec. 29.

The above-said action organization made up of more than 100 civic and public organizations including the Solidarity for Progress of south Korea and the Joint Conference of Human Rights Organizations called a news conference in front of the Kukmin Bank near the "National Assembly" building in Youido to declare the start of the "48-hour people's emergency action."

At the news conference the organization termed the evil bill introduced by Lee a declaration of war against the people, declaring that the motion calling for the ratification of south Korea-U.S. FTA, the bill on the revision of the law on broadcasting, the bill on the revision of the law on protecting the secret of communication, the bill on the revision of the law on assembly and demonstration and the "bill on the human rights issue in the north" should never be allowed to pass through the NA.

If the "government" and the ruling party railroad lots of unpopular evil bills, the organization will label them "bills for dictatorship" and immediately launch a struggle to judge the Lee Myung Bak regime, the organization warned.

At the end of the news conference, organizations grouping people of different circles staged protests in various parts of Seoul.

The above-said people's action was followed by a "candlelight prayers meeting" sponsored by the Pastorate Council for Realizing Justice and Peace of south Korea.

The participants offered strong resistance against the riot police.
