Pyongyang Facelifted
Pyongyang, December 30 (KCNA) -- Audacious and bold projects have been undertaken in Pyongyang this year under the plan of the Workers' Party of Korea to add grandeur and beauty to it as a city of the people.

Major service centers and cultural facilities of the capital city have been spruced up.

The Okryu and Chongryu Restaurants, public catering centers popular with the people, have been refurbished to combine national classical beauty with modern beauty while preserving its original looks and well harmonize grace, majesty and elaborateness while providing the best convenience to the customers.

A good many people spend their pleasant hours at the Taedongmun Cinema which has been facelifted to be flawless in formative artistic respect and acoustic effect and the Central Zoo which has changed its looks to remind one of a "natural zoo".

The banks of River Taedong meandering through Pyongyang have been largely lowered and reinforced between the Okryu Restaurant and the Chungsong Bridge and parks laid out along the banks. This gives a broader prospect of east Pyongyang across the rich stream of the river.

Various folk game fields, playgrounds, varied shapes of benches and open-air meal tables have cropped up and service facilities have appeared in the thickly wooded area and lawn along the banks of the Pothong River.

Lots of results have been achieved in sprucing up main streets so that they may be faultless to all appearance in the distant future.

The vast-scale reconstruction of Mansudae Street is in full swing and apartment houses of various architectural styles such as octagonal and semicircular ones began to show their outlines.

The main streets including Kaesonmun, Chilsongmun, Moranbong, Podnamu, Yongung and Chollima Streets and Changjon Crossroad have been newly asphalted. Meanwhile the outer walls of the buildings in the main streets have been dressed with tiles and a brisk work has been pushed on to render their surroundings more refreshing.

The citizens eager to turn Pyongyang into a city in a park have planted numerous trees of good species and laid out 200-odd new flower beds in the main streets this year.

The looks of Pyongyang renovated to meet the requirements of the new century heighten the pride of the citizens living in the revolutionary capital.
