Kim Jong Il Appreciates Performance Given by State Symphony Orchestra
Pyongyang, December 28 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il appreciated a performance given by the State Symphony Orchestra.

When he appeared in the auditorium, the whole audience broke into the rousing cheers of "hurrah!" and enthusiastically welcomed him. They paid highest tribute to him who lighted the torch for bringing about a fresh great revolutionary surge in the building of a great prosperous powerful nation and has made indefatigable efforts, leading the drive for it.

The artistes of the symphony orchestra put on the stage "Blue Sky over My Country", "Arirang", "Moran Hill" and "Rich Harvest Comes to the Chongsan Plain" and other orchestras.

They made a high artistic representation of the heroic spirit of Songun Korea.

Their fascinating and peculiar presentation of orchestras rich in national flavor and strong in emotion strikingly demonstrated the greatness of the Korean national music, the Juche-based orchestra, which has reached the highest level.

When the performance was over, he waved back to the enthusiastically cheering performers and audience and congratulated the artistes on their successful presentation.

The Juche-based orchestras of the DPRK have made leaping progress since they greeted their best days in the era of Songun, he said, highly praising the creators and artistes of the State Symphony Orchestra for having devoted themselves to thoroughly implementing the WPK's policy on developing the orchestras their own way to cater to the taste and feelings of the Korean people.

The State Symphony Orchestra having talented conductors, creators and musicians is a symphony orchestra of world stature in all aspects including its size, the quality of musical instruments and the level of representation, he noted, adding the Korean people are proud of having such long-standing prestigious and revolutionary art troupe.

He set forth important tasks which would serve as guidelines for further developing the Juche-based orchestras, underscoring the need to put orchestras on a higher level as required by the new century and thus satisfactorily meet the ever-growing cultural and emotional needs of the Korean people.

Among the audience were Jang Song Thaek and Kim Yang Gon, department directors of the WPK Central Committee, Kang Sok Ju, first vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, Ri Yong Chol, Ri Je Gang, Kim Kyong Ok and Ri Jae Il, first vice department directors of the WPK Central Committee, Cha Sung Su, chairman of the Radio and TV Broadcasting Committee of the DPRK, and other senior officials, KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su and other commanding officers of the army.
