"Media Action" Declares Struggle against Moves of GNP to Control Media
Pyongyang, December 18 (KCNA) -- The "Media Action" grouping 48 civic and public organizations including the south Korean Press Trade Union held a meeting in Seoul on December 12 to denounce the moves of the Grand National Party of south Korea to put media under its control.

Speakers at the meeting accused the GNP of busying itself with the moves to retrogressively revise the law on media in a bid to transfer the right to operate the broadcasting services to conservative media including Chosun Ilbo and plutocrats, far from thinking of saving economy from bankruptcy.

If this is allowed to happen, broadcasting services will be commercialized and the impartiality of media will be disturbed, they deplored.

Calling on all of them to unite close to check the GNP's moves to put media under its control, they warned if the bill for revision of the law on media is brought to the "National Assembly", media persons will call a general strike.

Prior to this, the "Media Action" called a press conference outside the building of the "National Assembly" together with opposition parties including the Democratic Labor Party and declared a struggle against the GNP's moves.
