Facelifted Central Zoo (1)
Pyongyang, December 13 (KCNA) -- The Central Zoo located at the foot of picturesque Mt. Taesong in Pyongyang is visited by a stream of people.

General Secretary Kim Jong Il, who gave on-spot guidance to the Central Zoo reconstructed on an expansion basis some time ago, said that it is the pride of the Korean people to have a large modern zoo.

The zoo covers an area of more than 100 hectares.

Over sixty animal sheds including the aquarium, tiger, bear and horse sheds have been arranged in harmony with the surrounding scenery while providing circumstances like the habitats of animals and have full conditions for tending in time and breeding young animals.

The open-air playgrounds were broadened in a rational way to suit the features of animals living in the natural world and ditches were dug around them. In particular, an elevated bridge was built over the margin of the beast sheds so that visitors may see beasts more clearly.

The upper parts of the bird cages were widened and glass walls were installed in the animal sheds for the convenience of the zoo-goers.

The aquarium was also built in accordance with the ecological features of rare fishes, equipped with the advanced facilities including filter.

As a result, the number of visitors is increasing even in winter.
