World AIDS Day Observed
Pyongyang, December 1 (KCNA) -- An event was held at the People's Palace of Culture on Monday on the occasion of the World AIDS Day.

Present there were officials of ministries, national institutions and working people's organizations, health workers in the city, staff members of international organizations and staff members of foreign embassies here.

Ri Pong Hun, vice-minister of Public Health, addressing an opening ceremony, said that AIDS presents itself as a very severe issue worldwide, adding that a work is making successful progress in the DPRK to prevent AIDS.

He said that the DPRK would further strengthen the work for preventing AIDS in close touch with international bodies and organizations including WHO and the UN AIDS Organization.

Then the floor was taken by Umesh Gupta, acting representative of WHO here, and Ewa Eriksson Fortier, head of the delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, working in the DPRK.

A lecture titled "Let's actively wage the work for preventing AIDS" was given at the event.

Its participants looked round photos introducing the successes of the DPRK in the work for preventing AIDS before appreciating a performance given by a hygienic information team.
