Pyongyang, October 30 (KCNA) -- The Tangun's Mausoleum in Kangdong County, Pyongyang, is a historic national treasure. It consists of the district of the monument to the reconstruction of Tangun's Mausoleum, district of stone human statues and central district.

There stand the sculptures of the sons of Tangun and subjects close to him in the district of stone human statues in rows right and left of the stone staircase.

Seen in the central district are the mausoleum on a foundation, a stone table, stone incense burner and a pair of stone posts in front of it.

The mausoleum is in the form of quadrangular pyramid. A stone tiger sculpture guards it in each corner.

A tower of the pipha-shaped dagger, a typical weapon in the period of ancient Korea, stands in each outer corner of the central district.

Two platforms for coffins in which the remains of Tangun and his wife lie are laid side by side from south to north on the floor of the chamber.

Hanging on the front wall of the chamber is the portrait of Tangun.

The mausoleum shows the developed culture and the political, economic and military might in the period of Tangun's Korea. It, based on the traditional tomb style of the nation, is a cultural treasure rich in national character.

It is thanks to the wise guidance of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il that Tangun, the ancestral father of the nation, was discovered and ascertained as real figure and the national history spanning 5000 years was recovered.

After acquainting himself with the legends on Tangun associated with Mts. Kuwol and Myohyang and the data on the Tangun's Mausoleum in Kangdong County, Pyongyang, the President initiated its excavation. After its discovery and scientific investigation of the data, he called at the mausoleum to see all the relics and scrupulously led scholars and officials so they might study and systematize the history of Tangun and ancient Korea in a proper way.

Kim Jong Il saw to it that all conditions were provided to conduct the research into Tangun and ancient Korea on a latest scientific foundation.

As a result, it was proved in a scientific way that Tangun was not a mythological being but a real figure who was born 5011 years ago from the year of 1993.

Kim Jong Il looked round the reconstructed mausoleum on October 29, Juche 83 (1994) and instructed officials that the mausoleum should be preserved and managed as a historic national treasure.

The mausoleum instills national pride into the minds of the Korean people.
