Settlement of Japan's Past Urged
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- The Fifth Conference of the International Solidarity Council Demanding Settlement of Japan's Past was held in Netherlands from October 2 to 4.

Attending it were delegations and delegates of organizations demanding settlement of Japan's past and human rights organizations from the DPRK, Netherlands, Germany, UK, Canada, the U.S. and other countries and regions and victims of the war launched by Japan.

At the conference speakers said that such hideous crimes against humanity as sexual slavery, forced labor system and massacres committed by Japan after invading Korea and other Asian countries in the past are a wanton violation of the Hague Convention. They proved that it is the duty the Japanese government is obliged to fulfill in light of international law to make apology and reparation to the victims, and bitterly condemned the injustice and moral vulgarity of Japan's moves to evade settlement of its past.

Testimonies were made by victims. Then, followed speeches by delegates of organizations of different countries and regions involved in the international solidarity council.

The speakers said that the parliaments of Netherlands, the U.S. and Canada and the European Parliament adopted and passed resolutions on the crimes related to the "comfort women" for the Imperial Japanese Army and have conducted various activities to build up international public opinion critical of Japan's past crimes and defend human rights of Koreans in Japan.

They proposed such ways of settling Japan's heinous human rights abuses as further strengthening the international solidarity council and conducting positive activities to institute an international law related to the settlement of Japan's past in the future.

A resolution adopted at the conference strongly demanded the Japanese government, the Diet and enterprises make full apology and reparation for the past crimes against humanity and stop distortion of history at once, and stressed the need to escalate international solidarity activities to urge Japan to settle its past crimes.
