"World Food Day" Marked
Pyongyang, October 16 (KCNA) -- It is quite possible to settle the problem of food if all countries of the world buckle down to the work for its solution with a will and make concerted efforts to this end, says Rodong Sinmun Thursday in an article dedicated to the "World Food Day" and the anniversary of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The "World Food Day" instituted by the FAO is aimed at helping all the countries and all the people of the world properly understand the importance of the food problem and deepening the international discussion on the way of settling the worldwide food problem, the article notes, and goes on:

The theme of "the World Food Day" this year is "World Food Security: the Challenge of Climatic Change and Bio-energy."

A climatic change caused by the global warming and massive production of bio-fuel by use of grain are the factors of upsetting the world food security and causing food crisis which cannot be ignored.

The world food situation still remains tense, posing a grave threat to mankind.

Having drawn a lesson from the present food crisis, a lot of countries are developing agriculture by their own efforts and striving to increase the grain production to solve the food problem.

The DPRK has waged energetic drive to boost the agricultural production despite natural calamities that hit it for several consecutive years. It has taken a series of realistic and effective measures to do so. It laid down the policies for bringing about radical turns in seed improvement and potato farming and double-cropping and has pushed ahead with gigantic nature-remaking projects including the land realignment and waterway construction in a planned manner. It, at the same time, strictly applied the principle of a right crop in the right soil and a right crop in the right time in the agricultural production and actively developed and introduced advanced farming technique and methods. This is making the prospect of settling the food problem bright in the DPRK.

A solution to the worldwide food problem is by no means impossible.
