Mt. Kuwol is made up of low and high peaks including Sahwang Peak 954 meters above sea level.

Its name is derived from the beautiful scenery of the mountain dressed with yellow leaves in September.

Mt. Kuwol with peculiar and beautiful mountains and valleys stands high between the vast Jaeryong and Unryul plains, demonstrating its wonderful and dignified feature.

Ecstatic, indeed, is the landscape of the mountain--99 peaks, ridges and valleys, thick forests and refreshing waterfalls and crystal-clear streams.

In particular, the Ryongyon Falls, the Samhyongje Falls and the maple of September are marvelous.

Tangun founded Kojoson (ancient Korea) which existed from the early 30th century B.C. to 108 B.C. There are in the mountain the Tangun Rock on which he sat and studied and many places associated with Tangun-related legends and many historical relics including Woljong Temple.
