DPRK's Will to Strive for Lasting Peace and Stability of Korean Peninsula Reiterated
Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- The DPRK government will as always make every possible effort to achieve national reconciliation and unity, usher in a new era of independent reunification, peace and prosperity and ensure durable peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula by implementing the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and the October 4 declaration to the letter.

Pak Kil Yon, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs who is heading the DPRK delegation, declared this at the plenary meeting of the 63rd UN General Assembly on September 27.

Noting that the efforts for reforming the UN and enhancing its role should be made in direction of building a free and peaceful, new world, he said:

It is essential to prevent such important international issues as global peace and security from being decided on in the interests of some specified countries.

To this end, it is necessary to decisively enhance the authority of the UNGA, where all its member nations exercise the equal right to representation, and strongly reject aggression against sovereign countries and interference in their internal affairs, the practices being conducted under the pretext of "protecting human rights".

Branding the United States which does not hesitate to invade independent countries by force and kill innocent civilians at present as a wrecker of global peace and the worst violator of human rights, he urged the member nations of the UN to maintain the utmost vigilance against the call for "the protection of human rights" made by the U.S. and other Western countries and never allow the politicking, selection and double standards over the issue of human rights.

Japan is the only war criminal state which occupied Korea and other Asian countries and massacred millions of innocent people, he said, adding: It has embellished its history of aggression and is still seeking to grab Tok Islet, an inalienable part of Korea's territory. Such country is not qualified to get a permanent seat at the UN Security Council under any circumstances.

Noting that the Korean people suffered under Japan's military occupation for nearly half a century and have been in the military showdown with the U.S. for over 60 years, he said: That is why they desire peace more ardently than any other people.

He went on:

To denuclearize the Korean Peninsula is the behest of President Kim Il Sung, and it is the steadfast stand of the DPRK government to settle the nuclear issue peacefully through dialogue and negotiations.

The DPRK has so far sincerely fulfilled its commitments under the agreement made at the six-party talks.

The U.S. call for unilateral inspection of the DPRK is a gangster-like assertion intended to disarm the DPRK, its warring party, disregarding the denuclearization of the whole Korean Peninsula stipulated in the September 19 joint statement the keynote of which is to remove the nuclear threat from the U.S.

The DPRK will as ever make all its sincere efforts to denuclearize the whole peninsula, but never allow any attempt to hurt its dignity and pride and infringe upon its sovereignty.

The June 15 joint declaration and its action program, the October 4 declaration are a landmark indicating the shortcut to the development of inter-Korean relations and the independent reunification of the Korean nation in the new century, and they are a great platform most correctly reflecting the demand of the times and the desire of the nation.

It is absolutely intolerable to ignore the historic inter-Korean declarations adopted at the north-south summits and unanimously hailed by the international community on account of the regime change in south Korea.
