Title of Tribal Chief Awarded to Kim Jong Il by Kingdom of Nigeria
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- The title of "Royal Majesty Igwe Sir/ Dr Chris Ogakwu Igwe Okwuluoya III of Udi Kingdom, Enugu State, Nigeria" was awarded to leader Kim Jong Il on the occasion of the 60th birthday of the DPRK.
A ceremony of conveying the title was held in Udi Kingdom in Enugu State of Nigeria on Sept. 7.
The chairman of the Guardians Council of Udi Kingdom spoke first at the ceremony.
Saying that it is the first time in the history of the Kingdom to award the above-said title to Kim Jong Il, the leader of the DPRK, the chairman extended the warmest congratulations to him on behalf of the Guardians Council and the people of the Kingdom.
Noting that it is quite natural for the Kingdom to confer its highest title to Kim Jong Il as he has performed great feats for the development of the DPRK and the welfare of mankind, the chairman highly praised the undying exploits he has performed in the efforts to accomplish the human cause of independence.
Then a decision of the Tribal Chief Council to award the title to Kim Jong Il was read out and the certificate of the tribal chief and his costume and others were conveyed to the DPRK ambassador to Nigeria.
Speeches were made at the ceremony.
The King of Udi said that Kim Jong Il was the first to be awarded this title not only in the community but internationally. He extended warm congratulations to him on being awarded the above-said title.
Yang Hyong Sop Meets Lao Delegation
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, met and had a conversation with the delegation of the National Sports Commission of Laos led by its President Phouthong Seng-Akhom in a friendly atmosphere at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on Wednesday.
Gift to Kim Jong Il from President of Lao National Sports Commission
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il received a gift from Phouthong Seng-Akhom, president of the National Sports Commission of Laos on a visit to the DPRK.
The gift was handed to Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, by the president on Wednesday.
Anniversary of Denmark-DPRK Friendship Association Marked
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- A friendship meeting took place at Moranbong Middle School No. 1 in Pyongyang on Sept. 16 to mark the 40th anniversary of the formation of the Denmark-DPRK Friendship Association.
Present there on invitation were members of the delegation of the association headed by Chairman Anders Kristensen.
On hand were Chairman Ryu Sung Rim and staff members of the DPRK-Denmark Friendship Association and teachers and students of the school.
The participants went round various educational facilities of the school before enjoying an art performance of students. They talked about boosting the relations between the two countries, deepening friendship.

11th Pyongyang International Film Festival Opens
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- The 11th Pyongyang International Film Festival was opened with due ceremony at the Pyongyang International Cinema House on Wednesday.
Present there were Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, Ro Tu Chol, vice-premier of the Cabinet, officials concerned, creators and artistes in the field of movie industry, working people in the city, delegations, delegates and honorary guests of different countries including the DPRK and international jury members.
Present there on invitation were diplomatic envoys of various countries and staff members of their embassies and missions of international organizations here.
Kang Nung Su, minister of Culture who is chairman of the organizing committee of the festival, in his opening address referred to the fact that the Pyongyang International Film Festival has made steady progress, boosting the bonds of cooperation and friendship among countries and peoples in the movie field and promoting the sound development of movies in the world. He wished the participants in the festival successes in their activities.
A congratulatory speech was made by British delegate Derek Elley.
International jury members of the festival were introduced there.

National Scientific and Technological Public Presentation Held
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- A national public presentation of science and technology in the field of protection of animals and marine resources was held at the Grand People's Study House on Wednesday on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of General Secretary Kim Jong Il's work "On Thoroughly Implementing the Party's Line of Attaching Importance to Science and Technology".
Ri Su Yong, chairman of the Association for the Protection of Animals of the DPRK Natural Conservation Union, in a speech made there recalled that Kim Jong Il in his work laid down the line of attaching importance to science and technology as a strategic line of building a great prosperous powerful nation, adding that this is of great significance in establishing the trait of attaching importance to science and technology throughout society and developing all fields of socialist construction as required by the new century.

Mighty Mass Gymnastic Display Creative Group of Korea
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- The Grand Gymnastic and Artistic Performance "Arirang", a "Kim Il Sung Prize" laureate, and the mass gymnastic display "May the Country Prosper" are being performed before capacity crowds in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
All the works which draw the admiration of all people such as kaleidoscopic gymnastic display, three dimensional background and music are related with the Mass Gymnastic Display Creative Group which was awarded "Kim Il Sung Order".
The group was founded in November Juche 60 (1971).
The group has made a great contribution to the creation of Juche-oriented mass gymnastic displays and their dissemination and development by creating a number of works including "Song of Korea" (April 1977) and "Peoples Sing of the Leader" (April 1982).
The group has greatly helped toward the ideological and spiritual education of the people, the building up of the physical strength of the youth and children and strengthening of friendship and cooperation with the world people.

Promising Girl Weightlifters
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- The weightlifting tournament of the 45th national sports contests of juvenile physical training schools was held recently.
Conspicuous in the tournament were Rim Jong Sim and Pak Jong Suk, pupils of the Juvenile Physical Training School attached to the Weightlifting Gymnasium in Chongchun Street, and Choe Hyo Sim and Kim Ok Hyang, pupils of the Juvenile Physical Training School attached to the Yanggakdo Football Stadium.
Rim Jong Sim set a new juvenile record of the DPRK with a lift of 17kg more than the previous record in the 53kg category.
She lifted 83kg in snatch, 105kg in jerk and 188kg in total.
She who started to learn weightlifting from four years ago has set new juvenile records of the Republic four times and also came first at the women's weightlifting competition of the Mangyongdae Cup sports contest held this year.
Choe Hyo Sim created a new juvenile record of the Republic with a lift of 55kg in snatch, 71kg in jerk and 126kg in total in the 38kg category to win three new record medals and three gold medals.
Kim Ok Hyang broke the old record by lifting 64kg in snatch in the 44kg category and thus bagged three new record medals and three gold medals.
Pak Jong Suk who was awarded two new record medals and three gold medals in the 48kg category has set new juvenile records of the Republic three times.
First Aid Activities Get Brisk
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- First aid activities are being conducted positively for the working people in the DPRK.
In order to protect the lives of the people and promote their health and wellbeing, the government is strengthening public health services including first aid treatment and the efforts to prevent various epidemics and diseases in contact with public health organs at all levels along with hygienic propaganda among the inhabitants.
The first aid posts arranged well in the capital and local areas have taken thorough measures to give first aid treatment to the wounded and victims immediately after accidents and to prevent epidemic diseases.
Rooms for the dissemination of first aid treatment knowledge to inform the inhabitants of how to cope with traffic accidents have been built and are run in a normal way.
During farming season and natural calamities, volunteers of the DPRK Red Cross Society set up mobile posts and undertake the first aid treatment for working people.
A function was held to observe the "World First Aid Day" for the year of 2008 in Pyongyang June 9 Taesong Middle School No. 1 on Wednesday.

All Koreans Called upon to Struggle for National Sovereignty
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- National sovereignty is a fundamental guarantee for the existence and development of each nation.
Rodong Sinmun Wednesday says this in a by-lined article.
If a nation is deprived of its sovereignty, it will have no vitality though it exists and will not escape miserable slavery.

Foreign aggressor forces occupied south Korea by force of arms, artificially dividing the Korean Peninsula into two parts and infringing upon the sovereignty of the Korean nation.
The U.S. imperialist aggression forces' presence in south Korea is seriously obstructing the independent and democratic development of society in south Korea while trampling down upon the national dignity and threatening people's right to existence.

Kim Jong Il's Work Published in Syria
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il's famous work "Our Socialism Centered on the Masses Shall Not Perish" was brought out in pamphlet on Sept. 3 by the Dar Damascus Publishing House of Syria.
The work, published on May 5, Juche 80 (1991), clarifies the inevitability of the victory of socialism, secret of its solidity and indestructibility. It also clarifies the idea that socialism in the DPRK is Korean-style socialism centered on the popular masses, an embodiment of the great Juche idea, and that the socialist system in the DPRK is the most advantageous social system that provides the popular masses with an independent and creative life.
Special Bulletin Issued by Danish Friendship Association
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- The Denmark|DPRK Friendship Association released a special bulletin on Sept. 5 on the occasions of the 60th founding anniversary of the DPRK and the 40th anniversary of the formation of the association.
It carried photos showing the revolutionary activities of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
The bulletin carried articles titled "60th birthday of DPRK", "Four decades of friendship and solidarity with Korean people" and "U.S., get out of Korea."
The bulletin in its articles referred in detail to the fact that the Korean people have built a socialist power, independent in politics, self-supporting in economy and self-reliant in national defence, united close around the Workers' Party of Korea under the wise leadership of Kim Il Sung.
It praised the indomitable mental power of the Korean people who have dynamically pushed ahead with the building of a great prosperous powerful nation despite all difficulties true to the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il in the 1990s.
It also introduced in detail photo-accompanied activities of the association which has supported the just cause of the Korean people for the last four decades since its formation.
Diamond Jubilee of DPRK Observed in Foreign Countries
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- The Workers' Party of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh-Korea Friendship and Solidarity Committee issued a joint statement on Sept. 8 on the occasion of the 60th birthday of the DPRK.
The statement noted that President Kim Il Sung performed undying exploits by waging an arduous anti-Japanese armed struggle to liberate Korea and founding the DPRK, a genuine independent and sovereign state, on Sept. 9, 1948.
Socialist Korea has firmly protected the dignity and sovereignty of the country and brought about a new historic turning point in building a great prosperous powerful socialist nation, the lifelong will of the President, under the distinguished Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il, it stressed.
Juzef Lachut, chairman of the National Executive Committee of the Polish Communist Party, in his statement on Sept. 5 said that the 60-year-long history of the DPRK is a history in which the President's cause of socialist construction has been carried out and a history in which the Korean people waged a struggle to build a more powerful country under his leadership.
He sincerely wished the Korean people greater success in their struggle to build a great prosperous powerful nation and achieve the reunification of the country under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.

Pyongyang, 17 de septiembre (ATCC) -- Con motivo del 60o aniversario de la fundacion de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea, el Dirigente Kim Jong Il recibio el titulo "Su Majestad Igwe Sr. / Dr. Chris Ogakwu Igwe Okwuluoya III del Reino de Udi del Estado de Enugu de Nigeria".
Tuvo lugar el dia 7 en este reino la ceremonia de entrega del titulo.
En la ocasion intervino primero el presidente del Consejo de Tutores del Reino de Udi.
Es la primera vez en la historia del reino que se otorga el titulo del Jefe Tribal a Su Excelencia Kim Jong Il, gran Dirigente de la RPDC, dijo el orador y rindio la mas calida felicitacion a el en representacion del Consejo de Tutores y los habitantes del reino.

Pyongyang, 17 de septiembre (ATCC) -- La Editorial Dar Damasco de Siria dio a luz el dia 3 en folleto la obra del Dirigente Kim Jong Il "Nuestro socialismo centrado en las masas populares es invencible", publicada el 5 de mayo del 80 (1991) de la Era Juche.
Esta obra aclara la inevitabilidad de la victoria del socialismo y la llave de solidez e invencibilidad del socialismo coreano.
Tambien dilucida la idea de que el socialismo de Corea es el centrado en las masas populares que materializa la gran idea Juche y su regimen socialista deviene el mas superior sistema social que garantiza la vida independiente y creadora a las masas populares.
Pesistas prometedoras
Pyongyang, 17 de septiembre (ATCC) -- Hace poco tiempo se efectuo la competencia de levantamiento de pesas en el marco del 45o Torneo Nacional de las Escuelas Deportivas de Jovenes y Ninos.
Atrajeron la atencion de los especialistas y aficionados a deportes Rim Jong Sim y Pak Jong Suk, alumnas de la Escuela Deportiva de Jovenes y Ninos del Centro de Levantamiento de Pesas del reparto Chongchun, y Choe Hyo Sim y Kim Ok Hyang, alumnas de la Escuela Deportiva de Jovenes y Ninos del Estadio de Futbol de Yanggankdo.
Rim Jong Sim establecio en la categoria de 53 kg el nuevo record de juniores de la Republica al levantar 17 kg mas que el record anterior.
Ella realizo 188 kg en total con 83 kg en arranque y 105 kg en envion.
Hace ahora 4 anos ella comenzo a practicar esta disciplina deportiva. Hasta la fecha implanto 4 veces el record juvenil y ocupo el primer lugar en el levantamiento de pesas (f) de la Competencia Deportiva por la "Copa Mangyongdae" de este ano.
Choe Hyo Sim tambien establecio el nuevo record en la division de 38 kg, al realizar 126 kg en total: 55 kg en arranque y 71 kg en envion, y obtuvo 3 medallas de nuevo record e igual numero de medallas de oro.
Kim Ok Hyang batio en la categoria de 44 kg el record anterior al levantar 64 kg en arranque y conquisto tres medallas de nuevo record e igual numero de doradas.
Pak Jong Suk gano dos medallas de nuevo record y tres medallas de oro en la categoria de 48 kg. Hasta la fecha establecio tres veces el nuevo record juvenil de la Republica.
Bangladesh y Polonia publican declaraciones por efemeride coreana
Pyongyang, 17 de septiembre (ATCC) -- Con motivo del 60o aniversario de la fundacion de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea, el Partido del Trabajo de Bangladesh y el Comite de Amistad y Solidaridad Bangladesh-Corea publicaron el dia 8 una declaracion conjunta.
El documento senalo que el Presidente Kim Il Sung al librar la ardua lucha armada antijaponesa, libero por fin a Corea y realizo las inmortales proezas con que fundo el 9 de septiembre de 1948 la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea, autentico estado soberano e independiente.
La nota indico que hoy la Corea socialista defiende firmemente la dignidad y la soberania del pais bajo la extraordinaria direccion del Songun (priorizacion militar) del Dirigente Kim Jong Il y logro un nuevo cambio historico en la construccion de una gran potencia prospera socialista que era el proposito del Presidente Kim Il Sung durante toda su vida.
El presidente del Comite Ejecutivo Nacional del Partido Comunista de Polonia, Josep Wacht, en su declaracion publicada el dia 5, subrayo que la historia de 60 anos de la RPDC es la de la causa del camarada Kim Il Sung por la construccion socialista y la de la lucha con que bajo su direccion el pueblo coreano ha venido construyendo un pais mas poderoso.
El deseo de todo corazon al pueblo coreano mayores exitos en su lucha por construir una gran potencia prospera y reunificar el pais bajo la direccion del camarada Secretario General Kim Jong Il.
