National Meeting Held to Mark 48th Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Start of Songun Revolutionary Leadership
Pyongyang, August 24 (KCNA) -- A national meeting took place at the April 25 House of Culture Sunday to mark the 48th anniversary of General Secretary Kim Jong Il's start of the Songun revolutionary leadership.
Present there were cadres of the Party, army and state, chairpersons of friendly parties, officials of the Party and armed forces and power bodies, public organizations, ministries and national institutions, officers and men of the Korean People's Army, officials of the fields of science, education, culture and art, public health and media, heroes, men of merits and working people in the city.
KPA General Kim Jong Gak, first vice director of the General Political Department of the KPA, made a report at the meeting.
He said:
On August 25, Juche 49 (1960) Kim Jong Il left the noble footprint of on-the-spot guidance to Guard Seoul Ryu Kyong Su Tank Division 105 of the KPA. This was the striking manifestation of his steadfast faith and will to accomplish with arms the revolutionary cause of Juche pioneered by President Kim Il Sung with arms.
Kim Jong Il's start of the Songun revolutionary leadership helped start the history of the great succession successfully carrying forward the Songun idea and leadership of the President and bring about a new turning-point in strengthening and developing the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK and accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche.
Out of the original view and standpoint on the issues of the position and role of the revolutionary army he advanced the idea of putting the army before the working class for the first time in the history of the revolutionary movement, put forward the People's Army as the main force of the revolution and made sure that the Songun policy is comprehensively applied in all fields of the revolution and construction.
With the Songun policy established as the basic political mode of socialism, the original way was opened to facilitate the balance of the revolutionary forces in our times and realize the socialist politics. It also helped the army and people of the DPRK confidently advance the revolutionary cause of Juche despite international political upheavals and the DPRK shed its rays over the world as the country of the great Songun idea and policy.
He visited anywhere soldiers are despite the biting cold in midwinter and the sweltering weather in the hottest period of summer to take deep care of the soldiers of the People's Army ranging from the political and ideological education of the servicepersons and the combat and political training to the economic, cultural and entertainment life of units. His fatherly love and trust were the basic motive force which helped firmly arm the People's Army with the Juche idea and the Songun idea and strengthen it into the strong revolutionary army of Mt. Paektu with the transparent spirit of devotedly defending the headquarters of the revolution, the peculiar strategy and tactics of our style and the invincible combat capability.
Kim Jong Il established new state system of our own style with the National Defence Commission as a pivot as required by the developing revolution in the Songun era and strengthened the single-minded unity of the revolutionary ranks with the army as its core in every way.
It was thanks to the Songun policy of the Workers' Party of Korea consistent with the spirit of genuine patriotism and staunch idea of independence against imperialism that the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and the October 4 declaration, the programme for its implementation, were provided, the desire of all the fellow countrymen to achieve the national reunification by their concerted efforts has become an irresistible trend and the prestige, position, influence and attraction of the DPRK has risen exceptionally high in the international arena and the international solidarity with the Korean revolution has grown stronger.
Shining victories and changes made in the fields of politics, military affairs, economy and culture and national reunification and the external relations despite all challenges of history vividly prove that the Songun revolutionary leadership and Songun politics of the Workers' Party of Korea serve as an ever-victorious banner of ushering in a new great era of the Juche revolution and an all-powerful treasured sword helping powerfully step up the revolution and construction and successfully transform all fabrics of social life.
The reporter underlined the need to stage an all-out offensive on all fronts of socialist construction based on the historic victory of Songun revolution and its achievements and thus fling open the gate of a great prosperous powerful nation, accelerate national reunification and accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche.
He went on:
The army and people of the DPRK will never remain an onlooker to the U.S. military and the south Korean bellicose forces staging frantic anti-DPRK war moves swimming against the trend of the times. Should the U.S. imperialists and their following forces misjudge the DPRK's will and act rashly, they will mercilessly wipe out the aggressors to the last man and certainly achieve the historic cause of national reunification by dint of the might of Songun they have built up century after century.
The DPRK will exert positive efforts to reject the imperialists' domination, interference and war moves and protect peace and security of Asia and the rest of world in firm unity with peoples of all countries advocating independence in the idea of independence, peace and friendship.
Dominican President Supports Korea's Reunification
Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Dominican President Leonel Fernandez Reyna met with the DPRK ambassador to Cuba who attended the presidential inauguration ceremony as special envoy of the DPRK government on Aug. 15.
Expressing deep thanks to the DPRK government for having dispatched the special envoy to the ceremony, the President said it is the unshakable stand of the Dominican government to develop the relations between the two countries.
Congratulating the 60th anniversary of the DPRK, he stressed that his country expresses full support and solidarity with the Korean people in their cause of reunification.
DPRK Praised as Great Country
Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- During the visit to the DPRK I came to know better about the exploits performed by President Kim Il Sung for the country and the people, said Sysay Leudedmounsone, president of the Central Committee of the Lao Women's Union.

Documentary Film Screened
Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Documentary film "The Respected Comrade Supreme Commander Is Our Destiny" was screened at the People's Palace of Culture Saturday on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of General Secretary Kim Jong Il's start of Songun revolutionary leadership.
Appreciating the film were officials of the Party, the army and the state, the chairman of a friendly party and officials of working people's organizations, ministries and national institutions.

DPRK Proves Successful at Int'l Aero Model Contest
Pyongyang, August 24 (KCNA) -- DPRK players won four gold, five silver and three bronze medals at the 2008 International Free Flying Aero Model Contest for Mongolian Cup held in Mongolia from Aug. 12 to 15. So, it placed first in the standings of countries to obtain the cup.
At the contest they took the first places at the glider, rubber-propelled and engine-propelled aero model team events while Ri Yong Ho won the title of glider individual.
Japan's Indelible Crime
Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Japan had committed many massacres unprecedented in history against the Korean nation last century. Among them is the Ukishima-maru incident, which was known as a horrible tragedy in history.
The Japanese imperialists intentionally blew up and sank the Ukishima-maru, a naval transport ship of old Japan, in the sea off Maizuru Port, Kyoto Prefecture, on August 24, 1945, to kill thousands of innocent Korean people who were on the way of returning home aboard the ship with the joy of national liberation.
As for the Koreans aboard the ship, they were survivors of the battlefields for aggression and backbreaking working sites. Having been deprived of their country by the Japanese imperialists, they were taken to alien lands where they were subjected to all sorts of national contempt and imposed upon slave labor.
The Japanese murderers committed the atrocity in a foolish attempt to revenge on Koreans for their defeat, the failure in achieving the wild ambition "Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere" and at the same time, to bury all their criminal acts forever.
But the then Japanese government described it as an "unavoidable incident" to conceal it in the dark of history.
In an effort to keep the criminal inside of the incident in secret once and for all, the Japanese government did not try to confirm the addresses and names of the dead and even to make public the correct death toll.
By so doing, Japan attempted to dwarf the casualties of Koreans as much as possible, evade the obligation of apology and compensation to the victims and the bereaved families for the crime as assailant and to dodge the responsibility for the incident.
Even today, the Japanese government fails to solve the Ukishima-maru incident correctly and tries to evade the responsibility.
Japan must admit its responsibility for the Ukishima-maru incident, a deliberate massacre committed entirely in accordance with the Japanese government's plan to slay Koreans, and apologize and compensate to the bereaved families of the victims.
Japanese Reactionaries' Visits to "Yasukuni Shrine" Blasted
Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- The visits paid by a group of Japanese ultra-right elements to "Yasukuni Shrine" on the occasion of the day the Japanese imperialists sustained a defeat are little short of tolling a death knell for Japan in the 21st century, says Rodong Sinmun Saturday in a signed commentary.

The Japanese reactionaries steeped in the idea of militarist aggression to the marrow of their bones asserted that it is the traits to be acquired by Japanese politicians to visit "Yasukuni Shrine," while praying for the souls of the war criminals at the shrine. This was, in essence, nothing but a militarist preach that Japan should strive hard to attain the political goal of repeating the history of militarist aggression, far from repenting of it.

Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Work Observed
Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today dedicates an article to the 20th anniversary of the publication of General Secretary Kim Jong Il's famous work " On Firmly Establishing the Revolutionary Outlook on the Leader among Officials".
The work reviews the history of the Korean revolution characterized by intense loyalty to the leader and devoted defence of him and elaborates on the essence of the revolutionary outlook on the leader, importance and significance of establishing it and the tasks and ways to do so.
The history of the Korean revolution is the history which was carved out and has made a victorious advance thanks to the spirit of devotedly defending the leader, the article notes, and goes on:
The undisputed trust in the leader and the transparent spirit of devotedly defending him were the inexhaustible mental power that enabled the young communists to successfully pave the true way for the Korean revolution, regarding themselves as flames spreading over the land and a hammer breaking the chains. They remained true to the sense of the obligation towards the leader as revolutionary soldiers by presenting the august name of the sun to President Kim Il Sung and creating the song of "Star of Korea" and disseminating it to people and shouting "Long live Hanbyol!" at the last moments of their lives. It is the most precious truth taught by the history of the Korean revolution that there is no formidable enemy in the world which cannot be defeated and there is no fortress unconquerable when the army and people have a great leader and they are replete with the transparent spirit of devotedly defending the leader.
The above-said spirit which was highly displayed in the annals of the Korean revolution has been given the fullest play in the era of Songun steered by Kim Jong Il.
This spirit serves as life-giving water which helps prepare the army and people of the DPRK as those strong in faith, will and mental power and as the main source of augmenting the might of the single-minded unity in the Songun era in every way and a main engine for bringing about great leaping advances in the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation.
Ours is invincible socialism under which all the servicepersons and people are single-mindedly united around the headquarters of the revolution.
No force on earth can shake their absolute trust in the leader and their faith in devotedly defending the leader.
Songun Policy Serves as Invincible Treasured Sword
Pyongyang, August 24 (KCNA) -- The Songun policy of the Workers' Party of Korea serves as an invincible treasured sword which helps hew out the destiny of the nation, stresses Rodong Sinmun Sunday in a signed article.

The Songun policy is a patriotic one which helps strengthen the military power to defend the sovereignty and security of the nation and bring about the reunification of the country and the hopeful future of the prosperous nation. Only when one upholds the Songun policy is it possible to achieve the independent reunification and peace and prosperity and win victory of the cause of national independence.
The policy puts forward the dignity and sovereignty of the country and the nation as the life and soul and regards it as the basic mission to thoroughly defend and realize them. But for our self-defensive war deterrent provided by the policy, a war would have broken out long ago on the Korean Peninsula.

The WPK is holding high the banner of Songun in order to build a reunified and prospering powerful nation on this land. The unanimous desire of the Korean nation for national reunification and the reunified powerful nation will be certainly realized as long as there is this great policy.
Ulji Freedom Guardian Flayed
Pyongyang, August 24 (KCNA) -- The large-scale Ulji Freedom Guardian joint military exercises staged by the United States and the south Korean puppets in south Korea from August 18 to 22 were very dangerous ones for aggression aimed at mounting a preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK.
Rodong Sinmun today observes this in a signed commentary.
It goes on:
The Ulji Freedom Guardian joint military exercises staged by the U.S. and the south Korean puppet military replacing Ulji Focus Lens, the codename of joint military maneuvers they staged for scores of years, were dangerous playing with fire intended to "examine in an all-round way" their preparations for DPRK-targeted war of aggression including the south Korean administrative institutions.
Worse still, the bellicose forces inside and outside south Korea waged the recent joint military drills in such a way that the south Korean puppet armed forces "spearhead" the said exercises and the U.S. forces "support" them. They even publicized that the war exercises are "defensive ones to cope with the transfer of the rights to command the wartime operations." This is, however, nothing but nonsense.
What merits a serious attention is that they provocatively launched the north-targeted joint military exercises at a time when the U.S. threw obstacles in the progress of the six-party talks and in the implementation of agreements of the talks, raising such an irrelevant issue as "human rights" of the DPRK. The U.S. can never evade the responsibility for the crimes of deliberately straining the tension on the Korean Peninsula and checking the trend of the times for dialogue and peace by staging the madcap exercises.
The Ulji Freedom Guardian joint military exercises were an inevitable product of the treacherous and bellicose policy for inter-Korean confrontation pursued by the Lee Myung Bak group zealously following the U.S. reckless policy of aggression against the DPRK and its war hysteria for the aggression on the north.
Absolutely intolerable are the U.S. and the south Korean bellicose forces' war provocation for aggression against the north as they escalate confrontation and tension and spoil the atmosphere of dialogue and peace, blatantly challenging the trend of the times.
The DPRK will bolster the war deterrent for self-defence under the uplifted banner of Songun to cope with the vicious north-targeted moves for a war of aggression getting ever-more undisguised on the part of the bellicose forces at home and abroad and resolutely foil any provocation with strong countermeasures. The war-thirsty forces would be well advised to refrain from the rash acts.
Lee Myung Bak's Anti-DPRK Remarks under Fire
Pyongyang, August 24 (KCNA) -- Traitor Lee Myung Bak slandered the dignified DPRK over the "issue of human rights" at the "talks" with U.S. President Bush during his recent trip to south Korea. Afterwards, the traitor has gotten frantic in "human rights" rackets against the DPRK, asserting that it was for the first time that the issue of human rights of the north was mentioned in the south Korea-U.S. "joint statement" and the "improvement of human rights" is the "standard and principle".

The puppet traitor's remarks about "human rights of the north" is a revelation of his ambition to fake up the "issue of human rights" of the DPRK and build up public opinions over this in a bid to tarnish its image, incite inter-Korean confrontation and, furthermore, attain the criminal aim to stifle the DPRK together with outside forces.
The DPRK is the most advantageous socialist state centered on the popular masses in which the dignity and rights of the people are ensured on the highest level and the sacred country respecting human rights.
The commentary cites facts to prove that south Korea has become grave yard of human rights which reminds one of the past fascist dictatorial period.
It goes on: Traitor Lee Myung Bak together with outside forces is unhesitatingly raising the racket over "human rights" against the DPRK which even his predecessors were reluctant to do. This fully reveals his true colors as a despicable sycophantic traitor serving the U.S. and vicious confrontational maniac.
The traitor would be well advised to stop at once the criminal rackets against the DPRK over its "human rights" aimed to incite the confrontation between the north and the south and block the cause of national reunification and mind his own business.
Suppression of Unionists Accused in S. Korea
Pyongyang, August 24 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) issued a statement on Aug. 20, denouncing the puppet police's frantic suppression of it.
The statement referred to the fact that the security authorities removed the suspension posters calling for the resignation of Lee Myung Bak, defence of vital rights and the dismissal of the chief of the Police Office from the KCTU building by mobilizing gangsters of the ward office of Yongdungpho, Seoul that day.
Worse still, the authorities created terror-ridden atmosphere after deploying police forces of 10 companies around the KCTU building to remove the suspension posters. They committed violence against members of the organization protesting against it and threatened that they would arrest them, it said.
The statement held that the police have escalated suppression day by day as evidenced by the acts of detaining Jin Yong Ok, chief vice-chairperson of KCTU, for no reason and arresting Jong Kap Duk, chairman of the Metal Trade Union under KCTU, on absurd charges that he spearheaded a strike.
It asserted that the persons to be naturally detained are the chief of the Police Office keen on "man-hunting" and abuses of people's rights and Lee Myung Bak wirepulling it.
Absolutely unpardonable is the Lee "government's" "indiscriminate suppression" to become a "government" for the sake of the conservative forces and big businesses only, the statement noted, stressing that the organization would dynamically stage the struggle against dictatorship without letup.
Wartime Killings of Civilians Disclosed
Pyongyang, August 24 (KCNA) -- BBC of Britain disclosed on August 18 that the south Korean authorities committed massacres of civilians with the United States' tacit approval and backing during the past Korean war.
Noting that the truth about massacres of civilians committed by the south Korean military and police during the war has been brought to light one by one recently, it reported that after the outbreak of the Korean war the south Korean "government" buried many people alive for the mere reason that they aspired after the progressive ideology. It also slaughtered a large number of "political prisoners" kept behind bars, asserting that they could "join" the Korean People's Army, the report added.
It pointed out that such massacres had been carried out at the tacit approval of the U.S.
BBC disclosed that the U.S. took away data or documents related to the massacres committed by the south Korean authorities to its land in an attempt to conceal the truth about them.
Kim Jong Il's Work Published in South Africa
Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il's famous work "Songun Revolutionary Line Is a Great Revolutionary Line of Our Era and an Ever-Victorious Banner for Our Revolution" was brought out in pamphlet by the Minuteman Press Publishing House of South Africa on Aug. 19.
The work, published on Jan. 29, Juche 92 (2003), clarifies the idea that the Songun revolutionary leadership and the Songun politics of the Workers' Party of Korea are a scientific revolutionary line and political mode, which inherited and developed President Kim Il Sung's idea and line of attaching importance to the army and most correctly reflected the requirements of the era and revolution.
It also tells about the great vitality of the Songun politics.
Birthday of DPRK Celebrated in Various Countries
Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held in Ecuador and a lecture given in South Africa on Aug. 14 and 17 to mark the 60th birthday of the DPRK.
The presidential envoy to Los Rios Province of Ecuador said at the meeting that they deem it as highest honor to register General Secretary Kim Jong Il, the great model of the Ecuadorian revolutionaries, as an honorary citizen of the province on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the DPRK.
Kim Jong Il is the only beacon of hope and the prominent leader of peoples in developing countries as he has creditably defended the socialist cause of Juche despite the imperialists' unprecedentedly high-handed practices and moves to stifle the DPRK, the speaker stressed.

60th Birthday of DPRK to Be Marked in Finland
Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- A Finnish preparatory committee was formed with due ceremony in Helsinki on Aug. 18 to celebrate the 60th birthday of the DPRK.
Present at the ceremony were figures and members of the Communist Workers' Party of Finland for the Peace and Socialism, the Finland-Korea Society and the Finnish National Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea.
The chairman of the Finland-Korea Society was elected chairman of the preparatory committee.
The preparatory committee decided to conduct such colorful events as a celebration meeting, a photo exhibition and a seminar on the occasion of September 9, the birthday of the DPRK.
Kim Il Sung's Exploits for Korea's Liberation Praised in Syria
Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Saber Ballul, head of a department of the Political Faculty of the University of Damascus of Syria, released a statement on Aug. 12 on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of Korea's liberation.

Estoy convencida de que tambien en el futuro, se fortaleceran y se desarrollaran las tradicionales relaciones de amistad y cooperacion entre los dos pueblos preparadas por el querido camarada Presidente Kaysone Phomvihane y el gran camarada Presidente Kim Il Sung.
Ecuador y Sudafrica: actividades por efemeride coreana
Pyongyang, 23 de agosto (ATCC) -- Con motivo del 60o aniversario de la fundacion de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea tuvieron lugar los dias 14 y 17 en el Ecuador y Sudafrica el mitin y la conferencia, respectivamente.
El gobernador de la provincia de Los Rios del Ecuador, Juan Jose Barquet Touma, en su discurso senalo que consideran como maxima gloria registrar a Su Excelencia el mariscal Kim Jong Il, el gran modelo de los revolucionarios ecuatorianos como ciudadano honorifico de la provincia con motivo del 60 aniversario de la fundacion de la RPDC.
Destaco que el es el unico faro de esperanza y el destacado dirigente de los pueblos de los paises en vias de desarrollo, quien defiende invariablemente la causa socialista del Juche aun en medio de la arbitrariedad y maniobras de aplastamiento de los imperialistas sin precedentes.
Apunto que en lo adelante haran ingentes esfuerzos por construir el socialismo para el pueblo tambien en la tierra ecuatoriana como en Corea mediante la materializacion de la idea socialista del Juche de Su Excelencia el mariscal Kim Jong Il.
Bonakele Majuba, secretario del comite del Partido Comunista de Sudafrica en la provincia de Mfumalanga, en la conferencia, senalo que hace ahora 60 anos la fundacion de la RPDC fue un gran evento historico que dejo abierto el camino de la construccion del potente Estado socialista en Corea.
Agrego que todos los exitos logrados por el pueblo coreano durante estos 60 anos pasados son fruto de la probada direccion del Presidente Kim Il Sung y el Dirigente Kim Jong Il.
Destaco que estan seguros que bajo la sabia direccion de Su Excelencia Kim Jong Il el pueblo coreano lograra nuevos exitos en su lucha por llevar a feliz termino la causa socialista.
Finlandia: comite preparatorio para 60 aniversario de fundacion de RPDC
Pyongyang, 23 de agosto (ATCC) -- Tuvo lugar el dia 18 en Helsinki la ceremonia constituyente del comite preparatorio de Finlandia en celebracion del 60o aniversario de la fundacion de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea.
En la ocasion estuvieron presentes las personalidades y otros miembros del Partido Obrero Comunista de Finlandia por la Paz y el Socialismo, la Asociacion Finlandia-Corea y el Comite Nacional de Finlandia para el Estudio de la Idea Juche.
En el acto el presidente de la Asociacion Finlandia-Corea fue electo como titular de la entidad naciente.
El comite decidio organizar varias actividades, entre ellas, mitin, exposicion de fotos y simposio consagrados al 9 de septiembre, dia de la fundacion de la RPDC.
