Mass Gymnastic Display "May Country Prosper" Presented

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The mass gymnastic display "May Country Prosper" produced on the occasion of the 60th founding anniversary of the DPRK was presented at the May Day Stadium here on Tuesday.
The display having six chapters including "Country Means Care of President," "My Country of Songun" and "My Country Is Rich and Powerful Korea" makes an epic representation of the 60-year-long history of the DPRK which shines as the revolutionary history of President Kim Il Sung and has been adorned with victory and glory under the experienced and tested leadership of Kim Jong Il.
The performers impressively depicted the exploits performed by Kim Il Sung in the nation-building which will last forever along with the history of the country through their dynamic gymnastics and skillful hand-standing and somersault and other movements requiring high technique.
Columns of gymnasts depicted torches, gears, molten iron and fields under bumper rice on the floor of the stadium while its background portrayed kind-hearted Kim Il Sung standing in the field of a farm, his face beaming with a sunny smile.
When the songs "Thunder on Jong Il Peak" and "The General Uses Art of Shortening Distance" resounded forth to shake the stadium, the performers presented a variety of formative art of building pyramids and ring gymnastics in high praises of the great brilliant commander of Songun.
To the tune of cheerful and dynamic songs including "Let My Country Make a Leaping Advance to Attain a Higher Goal" the performers truthfully represented the heroic mettle and indomitable struggle of all the servicepersons and people vigorously making a long journey of the revolution while bringing about fresh leaps on all fronts of socialist construction under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea by presenting acrobatics, heavy gymnastics and calisthenics by use of horizontal bars and elastic nets.
The mass gymnastic display made a successful representation of the history of the prospering country and its rosy future through enthusiastic and skilful gymnastic movements and the ever-changing scenes on the background. It was highly acclaimed by the spectators for its rich ideological contents and high artistry.
The display was enjoyed by working people and school youth and children in Pyongyang and local areas and overseas Koreans and foreign guests.

"Arirang" Draws Capacity Crowd

The stadium is packed to overflowing with spectators of Pyongyang and from all parts of the country and visitors from abroad.
The spectators are fascinated by varicolored means and elements of depiction -- music and dances, gymnastic and acrobatic pieces thick in national flavor and refined in artistry, the ever-changing background, peculiar stage decor, and electric and laser beams.
Added to this year's performance are Scene 5, Chapter 2 "Girls Weaving Silk in Nyongbyon" and other romantic and graceful scenes which delight the people.
The spectators are unstinting in their praises, saying: "Arirang" is a great masterpiece which fully represents the pride of the Korean nation.

Japan's Moves to Grab Tok Islet Flayed by Buddhists of North and South

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- Persons concerned of the Central Committee of the Korean Buddhist Federation and the National Believers' Association from the north side and the Central Believers' Association of the south Korean Buddhist Jogyejong and the Committee for Recovering Books that Record Royal Events Kept in the Room of the King of Korea and the Movement for Recovering Cultural Treasures from the south side issued a joint statement in Pyongyang on August 8 in denunciation of Japan's evermore undisguised moves to grab Tok Islet.
The statement denounced the above-said moves of Japan as a wanton infringement upon the sovereignty and dignity of the Korean nation and an unpardonable provocation to it.
Japan is a war criminal state which inflicted untold misfortune and sufferings upon the Koreans after illegally keeping Korea under its occupation for more than four decades in the last century, the statement said, and went on:
It is over 60 years since the defeat of Japan but it is working hard to whitewash and justify the countless crimes committed by it in the past and imbue the younger generation with the militarist view on history and the idea of revanchism, instead of making apology and reparation for them.
This goes to clearly prove that Japan's ambition for reinvasion has entered the full-fledged phase of its realization.
Japan should behave itself, drawing a proper lesson taught by history, immediately stop its foolish moves to grab Tok Islet, make apology and reparation to the Korean nation for its crime-woven past and unconditionally send back the valuable cultural treasures of the Korean nation including "books that record royal events kept in the room of the king of Korea" which it had looted to where they were before.
The statement called on the Buddhists in the north and the south to check and foil Japan's moves to grab Tok Islet united close under the banner of "By our nation itself" and carry on their strenuous struggle till they succeed in their patriotic practical action to recover the above-said cultural treasures.

Manwoldae, Royal Palace Site

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- Kaegyong (present Kaesong) which was the capital of Koryo, the first unified country of Korea (918-1392), has a lot of historic relics.
Manwoldae, one of the famous historic relics, is the site of the royal palace built in 919. It is said that the total area of the original palace nearby Songak-dong was over 1 250,000 square meters.
It consisted of Kungsong where the king lived and Hwangsong where major political affairs of the government were administered. It was built by inheriting the palace construction form of Koguryo such as the Anhak Palace.
According to records, there were many buildings with the main royal palace on a ground built up high in the middle of Manwoldae as the center and more than ten grand and splendid gate pavilions around the Kungsong and Hwangsong.
The palace in Manwoldae, which was burnt to ashes by foreign invaders, has been discovered and rearranged under the care of the Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government.
Prof. and Dr. Pak Yong Hae, a candidate academician in the History Institute under the Academy of Social Sciences, told KCNA that when the Hoegyong Hall, the main building, and other buildings are restored to the original state, the palace will come into being in the world as a famous one showing the time-honored history, brilliant culture and resourceful talent of the Korean nation.

U.S. Bellicose Forces' Accusation against DPRK Refuted

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The U.S. Department of Defense in a recent "defense strategic report" once again openly slandered the DPRK as a rogue state threatening the international order.
Rodong Sinmun today observes in a signed commentary in this regard:
It is foolish and ridiculous of the U.S. bellicose forces to try to do harm to the DPRK by attaching a very insulting and provocative label to it over its measures to increase its war deterrent.
The hostile moves of the U.S. to stifle the DPRK remain unchanged and they have gone beyond the tolerance limit, the commentary notes, and goes on:
The U.S. bellicose forces cooked up shocking incidents whenever there was a climate of peace on the Korean Peninsula, pushing the situation to the brink of a war.
Multi-faceted contacts and dialogues are now under way to settle the nuclear issue on the peninsula and improve the DPRK-U.S. relations and they have made a series of advances.
The U.S. talked about the "improvement" of the bilateral relations including the settlement of the nuclear issue on the peninsula before negotiators of the DPRK but is regarding it as "an enemy" and the target to be eliminated behind the scene.
The U.S. aggressive strategy towards the DPRK remains unchanged. It is only the methods of carrying it out that have undergone changes. The U.S. is talking about "dialogue" at the negotiating table but sharpening its sword to stifle the DPRK militarily as soon as its negotiators went back. This double-dealing attitude of the U.S. is compelling the DPRK to bolster its war deterrent to the maximum with a high degree of vigilance.
It is the DPRK's independent mode of counter-action to respond to good will with good will and react to a hard-line policy with the toughest measure.
The rights to option and decision are not the monopoly of the U.S.
If the U.S. persistently pursues its hostile policy to stifle the DPRK, talking about "dialogue" with the DPRK with an ulterior motive, the latter will exercise its right to decision and go ahead as it is determined. The U.S. should be held fully accountable for all the ensuing consequences, concludes the commentary.

U.S. Deplorable Management of Nukes Blasted

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- Three agents of the U.S. Air Force belonging to the strategic nuclear missile launching base in North Dakota were reported recently to have fallen asleep, with a secret locking device for pressing the switch for the launch of nuclear missiles left loose.
This indicates the extreme laxity manifested in the U.S. field of managing and handling nukes though it requires a high degree of awareness and sense of responsibility.
Minju Joson today says this in a by-lined commentary.
    It goes on:
The U.S. Department of Defense is trying hard to downplay the gravity of the case, claiming that "there was no danger" as the frequently changing launching code had to be inputted but this is no more than a clumsy subterfuge to escape the protest and condemnation of the international community focused on the U.S.
The U.S. handled nukes like toys though they do not allow anyone to get slackened even a bit and make any slightest mistake in their management and handling.
This fact goes to prove that the U.S. is so brazen-faced as to utterly disregard the human life and destiny.
What matters is that the U.S. made such serious "mistakes" not once or twice, the commentary observes, citing facts to prove mankind has been exposed to a U.S. constant nuclear threat ever since the middle of the 20th century.
The U.S., the worst country threatening other countries with nukes in the world, and nuclear criminal, is frequently raising a hue and cry over someone's nuclear threat, the commentary notes, adding that its ulterior intention is to disable defence capabilities of independent and sovereign countries and achieve its hegemonic goal with ease.

Lee Myung Bak's Pro-American Diplomacy Censured in S. Korea

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- CBS of south Korea reported on August 9 that the south Korean people are lifting up their criticism against the Lee Myung Bak group's humiliating diplomacy towards the United States.
According to it, the institute on public tendency, a civic survey body dealing with political and social affairs, conducted an opinion poll on the present "government's" policy towards the U.S. among young people on August 7. As a result, a majority of the respondents expressed the strong dissatisfaction.
The institute said that the results of the survey reflected the mindset of the people enraged at the reality in which the interests of the people are being infringed due to the "government's" sycophantic and humiliating diplomatic policy such as import of American beef.

Withdrawal of U.S. Forces and Independent Reunification Called for

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- A rally took place in front of the U.S. embassy in Seoul on August 8 to denounce diplomacy of tribute, war alliance and unequal south Korea-U.S. alliance.
It was held on the theme of total renegotiations on American beef import, implementation of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and realization of peaceful reunification, etc.
It was attended by members of youth and students and civic and public organizations in the area of Seoul.
A letter of protest to the U.S. embassy was read out there.
It condemned Bush for letting loose a spate of remarks at the recent "talks" between the chief executives of south Korea and the U.S. where he reiterated full support to Lee Myung Bak's "policy toward the north," the policy of totally negating the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration to bring the inter-Korean relations to collapse.
It said that the "talks" were, in a nutshell, "those which ignored the people and betrayed the unequal nature of the south Korea-U.S. alliance."
Speakers at the rally recalled that at the "talks" an agreement was reached on the issue of developing south Korea-U.S. "alliance" into a "strategic alliance." They stated that this was little short of openly declaring the U.S. intention to justify its permanent presence in south Korea and use the puppet army as cannon fodder to meet its interests.
They called for driving the U.S. forces out of this land and achieving independent reunification.
Prior to the rally, a press conference for kicking off a grand march to clear Seoul of U.S. forces and an inaugural ceremony of the "2008 vanguard for independent reunification in Seoul area" were held in front of the U.S. military base in Ryongsan.

Moves to Increase S. Korea's Share of Funds for Upkeep of U.S. Forces Assailed

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- "A symposium on south Korea-U.S. strategic alliance in the 21st century and increase of funds for the upkeep of the U.S. forces in south Korea" was held in Seoul on August 4 under the sponsorship of the Bar Association for Democratic Society in south Korea.
Speakers at the symposium said that the funds for the upkeep of the U.S. forces were expected to sharply increase this year to double the share for a GI as compared with that in 2001. These funds will directly go to the U.S. forces and the rent of the U.S. military bases and other indirect expenses will be far bigger than those funds, they added.
They accused the U.S. of forcing south Korea to increase its share to 50 percent of those expenses from the present level of 42 percent.
They also noted that the south Korean authorities would have to pay additional fund amounting to at least 520 billion won to cover the expenses for the transfer of bases, overseas dispatch of puppet troops and the expansion of the drill ground in Mugon-ri, etc.
Criticizing the U.S. for scheming to cover the expenses for the transfer of its military bases with funds for the upkeep of its forces, they noted that this would sharply increase south Korea's share of the funds for the upkeep of the U.S. forces in the future.
The present ruling forces are in such a deplorable position that they had no option but to meet all demands of the U.S. as they are keen to "restore confidence as regards the south Korea-U.S. alliance", they lamented, adding that Lee Myung Bak's "diplomatic profile" is worse than that under the former dictatorial regime.
