Kim Jong Il Inspects Company of KPA Unit
Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected a company of KPA Unit 669 honored with the title of O Jung Hup-led 7th regiment.
After acquainting himself with the company's performance of duty, he dropped in at the military lecture room to learn about how combat training is conducted at the company.
He praised the company for preparing its soldiers as a-match-for-a hundred fighters possessed of a high level of military technique and combat capability by successfully building the military lecture room and organizing effective training.
Then he paid deep attention to the service and living of the soldiers, making the rounds of an education room, a bedroom, a mess hall, a kitchen, a non-staple food store, a barn and other places.
After learning about how the company conducts its political work, he underscored the need for it to conduct a variety of ideological education in an appealing, plain and amusing manner to suit the characteristics of the young soldiers, including an oratorical meeting, a gathering for giving impressions of the books read and a meeting for congratulating exemplary soldiers. Kim Jong Il Inspects Women's Company of KPA Unit
Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected a women's company of KPA Unit 1374.
He acquainted himself with the company's performance of duty and appreciated the efforts made by its soldiers, expressing satisfaction over the fact that they are performing their combat duty with vigilance.
Then he learned in detail about the service and living of the soldiers, going round an education room, a bedroom, a mess hall, an outdoor resting place, a barn and other places of the company.
Pleased very much to see the soldiers leading a happy life free from any inconvenience, he expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the company has provided them with good living conditions.
It is good that the soldiers of the company are preparing themselves as stalwart women revolutionaries, voluntarily observing the steel-strong discipline, he said, adding that no period is as noble and worthwhile as the days spent by one as a soldier with arms.

Bird Flu Differential Method Established in DPRK
Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- Researches for a strict and prompt prevention of possible outbreak and spread of bird flu have carried out in the DPRK, which have culminated in some significant successes.
Scientists of the Branch Academy of Cell and Gene Engineering under the State Academy of Sciences have collected and classified analytical data on thousands of viruses belonging to various subtypes which have been confirmed and publicized in the world in recent years.
On this basis, they have laid a scientific and technological foundation for an easy and accurate differentiation of subtypes of HA bird flu viruses from 1 to 15.
On the other hand, they have established a scientific and technological method of quickly differentiating NA subtypes from 1 to 9, which are more difficult to differentiate than HA subtypes because of the scarcity of confirmed data and their excessive variability.
Now they are making confirming experiments on a high standard in contact with relevant units.
Brisk Activities in Months for Water Sports in DPRK
Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- The DPRK has set July and August as months for water sports to train the body and mind of the people through swimming.
A large number of working people of all walks of life and school youth and children are taking an active part in water sports activities at bathing resorts and swimming pools built in seas, rivers and streams in different parts of the country.
Various areas including Songdowon and Thongchon of Kangwon Province and Majon of South Hamgyong Province which face the sea are making an effective use of the sea.
The Panwoldo Swimming Pool in Pyongyang is crowded with thousands of swimming fans every day.
River-crossing contests are frequently taking place in the regions with rivers so as to raise people's interest in and zeal for swimming.

Program for August 15 Event Announced in S. Korea
Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- Representatives of civic and public organizations in south Korea including the Solidarity for Progress and the South Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration on August 7 inaugurated the Committee for Promoting the August 15 Meeting for National Reunification and announced its action program.
At the inaugural ceremony held in Seoul that day speakers said that the said meeting would be focused on the implementation of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and the realization of peace on the Korean Peninsula.
They said that during the period of the meeting they would make public the August 15 declaration on national independence, hold a national rally vowing the struggle against the distortion of history and for liquidation of the colonial remnants and defence of Tok Islet and conduct August 15 grand march and cultural event for independence and sovereignty and thus demonstrate the Korean nation's will for independent reunification.
August 15 will mark the 100th day since the candlelight actions were launched against the import of American beef, they noted, stressing that the promotion committee would vigorously conduct the movement against Japan's shameless moves for grabbing Tok Islet and the Lee Myung Bak group's confrontation policy towards the DPRK, holding the slogan "Turn candlelight against mad cow disease into candlelight for national dignity and independence and sovereignty!"
An appeal read out at the ceremony underlined the need to clearly show the spirit of national independence to the flunkeyist traitors who are selling off the people's right to existence, yielding to foreign forces. It called upon all the people to turn out as one in the work to ensure the successful holding of the August 15 meeting.
Military Authorities' Anti-Reunification Moves Flayed in S. Korea
Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- Recently the south Korean puppet military authorities defined as "seditious books" 23 kinds of books praising the DPRK and calling for the stand against the U.S. and the "government" and blocked their dissemination.
In this regard, publishing businesses and authors concerned are staging a protest against such behavior after forming a joint measure committee.
The joint measure committee held an emergency meeting on August 5 and strongly denounced the anti-reunification and treacherous behavior of the Defense Ministry.
The organization declared that it would conduct vigorous activities including legal countermeasure.
In a statement issued on August 7 it noted that the publication and dissemination of books calling for national reunification and opposition to the U.S. had been banned under the past military fascist dictatorial regimes. It deplored the reality that such acts are being openly committed in the present era of reunification.
It demanded that the military authorities open to the public the details about how the list of "seditious books" was made and the standard of definition and immediately stop such poor and inhumane behavior and make an official apology to the people.

Direccion nortena de APJERP condena a Lee Myung Bak
Pyongyang, 11 de agosto (ATCC) -- Al publicar el dia 9 una declaracion, el portavoz de la direccion nortena de la Alianza Pannacional de Jovenes y Estudiantes por la Reunificacion de la Patria (APJERP) condeno la represion fascista de la banda de Lee Myung Bak contra los habitantes, jovenes y estudiantes surcoreanos que luchan por defender la soberania y la dignidad de la nacion y lograr la reunificacion de la patria.
La nota revelo citando los hechos que debido a la ola de represion violenta desatada por la horda de Lee bajo el pretexto de la "actual situacion de seguridad", el Sur de Corea se convierte en la peor zona del fascismo y privada de derechos humanos que la escenificada en los anteriores regimenes de dictadura militar.
Prosiguio que Lee esta buscando en la represion fascista a los jovenes, estudiantes y habitantes la salida del atolladero en que cayo por romper totalmente las relaciones con el Norte abogando por la teoria conflictiva como "desnuclearizacion, apertura y 3, 000 dolares" y por su acto vendepatria de sacrificar para las fuerzas extranjeras hasta el derecho a la vida del pueblo mediante la importacion de la carne de vacas locas.
