Activities for Expanding and Disseminating Agro-forestry in DPRK

Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- Activities for expanding and disseminating the agro-forestry are being conducted in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The country has limited arable land and nearly 80 percent of its territory is mountainous. Under this condition, to expand and disseminate the agro-forestry is an important lever to guarantee the food safety, improve the people's living standard and achieve a comprehensive development of the countryside.
The basic environment has been made in the country to introduce and expand the agro-forestry, a sustainable land management system, which makes it possible to enhance the environmental protection function of the ecosystem and to get a maximum economic profit from it.
In order to realize the policy of making best use of mountains and to green the whole country, the government has set a period of general mobilization for land management and undertaken a nation-wide campaign for land management. And it has taken measures to build well sapling nurseries and to strengthen the functional ability of the land and environmental protection and forestry institutions.
Based on it, the government lets the local areas combine new agro-forestry technology with the experience gained in the cultivation of trees and crops adapted to the climatic and soil conditions of the given sloping areas while making an effective use of the experience.
It is allowed to use the slopping lands in such a manner as to ensure profits of the local people while planting trees and creating bio-protection belts.
Efforts are being exerted to international cooperation and exchange for expanding and disseminating agro-forestry.
The Ministry of Land and Environment Conservation started to carry the slopping land management project into practice in close contact with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in the DPRK from Juche 93 (2004).
In these years, the effectiveness of the agro-forestry has been proved and a model for the slopping land management created in Suan County, North Hwanghae Province. Meanwhile, the organizational ability of all provinces, cities and counties has also been raised so as to manage sloping lands in an environmentally safe way.
The country is increasing the cooperation scale by expanding the slopping land management project to the overall areas of North Hwanghae Province from this year.
Colorful events including the national workshop on agro-forestry are sponsored in the country to expand and disseminate the agro-forestry.

New Books Off Press in DPRK

Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- The Literature and Art Publishing House has recently released novels and books of common knowledge on literature and art which will be helpful to the cultural and emotional life of the working people.
The novel "Where Stars Twinkle" tells about heroic deeds of soldier constructors in building the Anbyon Youth Power Station in the days of the "Arduous March."
The novel explains what the revolutionary soldier spirit is and what a person should be like in the Songun era by depicting features of soldiers of the Korean People's Army who cut a water tunnel through, tiding over multifold difficulties and ordeals in the spirit of defending the revolutionary headquarters with their own lives and devotedly carrying through its intention and unexampled self-sacrificing spirit.
The novel "Jo Ok Hui," by tracing the course of growth of a Heroine of the DPRK well known among the Korean people, expounds the philosophical truth that the true life of a person can always be remembered by people only when he or she is embraced in the bosom of the great leader and everyone should dedicate his or her youth and life in defending this bosom.
"Foreign Musicians and Their Anecdotes" (Vol. 2) and "Common Knowledge of Dance" are among the new books brought out by the publishing house.

KCNA Terms Lee Myung Bak Traitor to Nation

Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- Japan has become all the more undisguised in its moves to seize Tok Islet since a conservative "government" appeared in south Korea.
Lee Myung Bak is encouraging the Japanese reactionaries in their territorial ambition through his mean acts of treachery to serve Japan, thus inviting misfortune.
No sooner had he taken the "presidential" office than he trumpeted about a "new era of future-oriented relations between south Korea and Japan." In less than five months after coming to power he visited Japan two times and held three "south Korea-Japan summit talks". He raved that he would not ask about Japan's past and boost relations with Japan from a "pragmatic stand" on several occasions.
When the Japanese chief executive clarified Japan's intention to mark Tok Islet as Japan's territory on textbooks on July 9, Lee, far from reacting to it from a tough stand, behaved so foolish as to implore him to wait in a concessionary manner, saying that it was difficult to handle the issue at the moment.
Lee, already referring to Japan's "claim to the islet", argued that "it was not an issue to be strongly reacted to out of momentary emotion". Shortly ago he went the lengths of asserting that "the issue of Tok Islet should not be dealt with too politically."
This is a mean behavior little short of shuffling off upon others the responsibility for what one has done and a perfidious act of conducting a bargaining over part of the cradle of the nation.
There is no such a big issue as the one of Tok Islet at present as it is an acute issue related to the territorial sovereignty.
Lee Myung Bak is patronizing the Japanese robbers, kowtowing to them even though they are making far-fetched assertion that Tok Islet, an inviolable part of the territory of Korea, belongs to it, much less redeeming its past crimes.
Japan is foolishly dreaming of seizing Tok Islet with the help of Lee Myung Bak identical to the five traitors of 1905.
This is evidenced by the fact that though the Japanese authorities are at loggerheads with several neighboring countries over territorial and historical issues at present, it is not reacting to them in a such brazen-faced and arrogant manner as it does over the issue of Tok Islet.
The Japanese reactionaries deem the seizure of power by Lee Myung Bak as a golden opportunity as they seek to make their own Tok Islet, a springboard from which they can make military advance to the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Asia and a key area for securing huge natural resources.
In the long run, it is exactly traitor Lee Myung Bak who instigated the Japanese reactionaries to lay down the so-called "principle" that "Japan should not be ambiguous in its stand on the issue of Tok Islet" at present and take even a measure to teach Japanese in the "dominium" over the islet, although it was universally recognized as part of the inviolable territory of Korea from long ago on the basis of historical and legal evidence.
No wonder even Japanese media, covering Lee Myung Bak's despicable acts of treachery to serve Japan, painted him as the "first rare pro-Japanese president of south Korea."
It would be impossible to defend the territory of the nation, much less safeguarding its dignity, if such traitor as Lee is allowed to live in the nation.
The fellow countrymen will never pardon such traitor to the nation.

87th Candlelight Action Staged in S. Korea

Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- The 87th candlelight action was staged in Seoul on August 2 to oppose Bush's visit to south Korea and judge traitor Lee Myung Bak.
Participating in the action were more than 2,000 members of civic and social organizations and political parties and citizens.
Speakers at the candlelight rally in Chonggye plaza charged that the Lee Myung Bak "government" sold off not only the vital rights of the people but also its self-respect to the United States through the humiliating diplomacy.
Despite the protest of all the people against the American beef import, arrogant Bush is going to visit south Korea for "war cooperation" rather than renegotiations on beef import, they pointed out.
As proven by the recent developments over the claims to Tok Islet, traitor Lee Myung Bak is in humiliating and passive relationship with the U.S., they said.
At the end of the rally, the participants took a demo, conducting information activities against Bush's visit.

S. Korean Religious Bodies Call for Escalating Candlelight Actions

Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- South Korean religious organizations including the "National Catholic Alliance for Justice" held the 7th Catholic mass on the situation at a church in Seoul on August 2 at which they called for escalating the candlelight actions.
The speakers at the mass condemned the police for frantically intensifying the suppression of the participants in the candlelight actions by using liquid tear gas and mobilizing "riot police" to put them under control.
They called for escalating the candlelight actions to cope with the strong counter-action on the part of the "government".
Referring to the hunger sit-in strike launched by workers at the building of the "National Assembly", they expressed support to their struggle.
At the end of the mass, its participants marched through streets and handed a letter reflecting the desire to see the candlelight to remain bright to members of the People's Measure Council against the Total Opening of south Korean Markets to American Beef on a sit-in strike in front of the Jogye Temple.

Intensive Action of Pomchonghakryon Reunification Vanguard Started in S. Korea

Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- The Reunification Vanguard of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification (Pomchonghakryon) formed a special company on August 4 to conduct intensive actions against Bush's trip to south Korea in the areas of Seoul, Inchon and Kyonggi Province.
An inaugural ceremony of the above-said company took place outside the American embassy in Seoul on the day.
Speakers at the ceremony said that the company would positively struggle in the areas centering Seoul to oppose Bush's trip to south Korea and expose the unjustness of south Korea-U.S. "alliance" and the true colors for aggression of the United States which is seeking to turn south Korea into a base for a war.
They condemned the Lee Myung Bak's pro-U.S. conservative regime for seeking to offer another "gift" to Bush under the pretext of "saving economy" although it sold off to the U.S. even the rights of the people to health without hesitation.
They accused the Lee group of fully denying the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and pushing the south-north relations to confrontation under the pretext of "pragmatism" at a time when the people's desire for the independent reunification of the country is mounting higher than ever before.
The implementation of the above-said declarations can be guaranteed only when Koreans strive to attach importance to the nation, defend peace and achieve unity, they stressed, calling for achieving independent reunification under the banner of "By our nation itself".

Candlelight Struggle Staged in S. Korea

Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- Core members of the south Korean People's Measure Council against the Total Opening of south Korean Markets to American Beef launched the struggle for opposing Bush, judging Lee Myung Bak and winning victory of candlelight actions in Seoul on August 4.
They opposed the trip to south Korea of Bush who forced the south Korean authorities to import the American beef fraught with the danger of mad cow disease to meet the interests of the U.S. only.
They declared that candlelight struggle would be conducted in different parts of south Korea to demand renegotiations on the import of American beef, oppose dispatch of troops to Iraq and Afghanistan and check the conclusion of south Korea-U.S. FTA during his trip.
They noted that they would continue their struggle till traitor Lee Myung Bak is judged and the candlelight actions win victory.
On the same day, the security authorities dispatched many riot police to threaten the participants in the sit-in strike.

The bulletin in an article titled "President Kim Il Sung's feats for the country's liberation remain long" noted that the liberation of the country by the President made it possible to save the Korean nation and found the DPRK, a genuine people's country where popular masses become the master of the state and society and everything serves for them.
    It also helped build a powerful socialist state in Korea and open up a broad vista for the Korean people to develop the economy by their own efforts, the bulletin said, and went on;
The DPRK, which regards the immortal Juche idea fathered by the President as the steadfast guidelines for the state building and activities, has resolutely rejected the interference and pressure by foreign forces and firmly defended the dignity and sovereignty of the nation.
The DPRK has carried out its points, saying all what it wants to do in facedown with the U.S. which styles itself as the "only superpower" of the world after the end of the Cold War in the last century. Thus, it is praised on the international arena as a small yet big country and a country strong in independence that no one dare to provoke.
