Kim Jong Il Gives Field Guidance to Work in Different Fields in Hwaphyong County

Pyongyang, July 2 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave field guidance to the work in various fields in Hwaphyong County.
He looked round President Kim Il Sung's statue standing in Hwaphyong Township. After seeing the statue with deep emotion, he said that the President covered the road of the revolution recorded with stern trials from his boyhood in order to regain the country usurped by the Japanese imperialists.
He said that the 250-mile Journey for Learning and the 250-mile Journey for National Liberation are very instructive courses which help the Party members and other working people and school youth and children know through life experience what arduous path of revolution the President traveled to liberate the country.
Then he moved on to the nature preservation area in Mt. Oga.
He was briefed on the area before a huge painting showing a panoramic view of the area. Feasting his eyes on the forest stretching around the pass on Mt. Oga and more than a thousand years old trees listed as rare living monuments, he acquainted himself with the preservation and management of the nature preservation area in detail.
He expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the nature preservation area in Mt. Oga with a long history is not only kept in its original state but has become richer in its contents in the era of Songun.
He stressed the need to preserve and manage the area with good care and hand it to posterity as it is a national treasure of which the nation should be proud and indicated the tasks to be fulfilled and ways to do so.
Then he put forward important tasks which would serve as guidelines in making the mountains and rivers of the country more beautiful.
He provided field guidance to the Hwaphyong Army-People Power Station built by the county by its own efforts.
After being briefed on the power station, he went round its exterior and interior to acquaint himself with its construction and electricity production.
He praised the county for having completed the construction of the modern power station with big capacity in a brief span of time by its own efforts.
Then he learned about the construction of minor power stations in the county.
Hwaphyong County has made remarkable progress in all work including the power station construction, agricultural production and rural construction, he said, highly appreciating the successes all the Party members and other working people in the county have registered by making uninterrupted innovations and advances as befitting the creators of the spirit of Kanggye.
Saying that the county is a regional centre and unit in socialist construction, he underscored the need to increase the role of the county.
He said that the experience gained by Hwaphyong County eloquently proves that if the role of the county is increased and local resources and potentials are properly tapped and utilized, the county can settle by itself the issues arising in the livelihood of the people and steadily improve the standard of people's living in the county without causing a heavy burden to the state.
He expressed great expectation and belief that the people in Hwaphyong County would continue to successfully play the vanguard role in the gigantic struggle to build a great prosperous powerful nation in the future, too.
He was accompanied by Pak To Chun, chief secretary of the Jagang Provincial Committee of the WPK, Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the C.C.,WPK, and Pak Nam Gi, department director of the same.

Work for Forestalling Flood Damage Brisk

Pyongyang, July 2 (KCNA) -- Active measures have been taken in the DPRK to prevent flood damage.
Unexpected heavy rains and downpours hit the DPRK due to the abnormal climate in recent years, seriously affecting agricultural production and people's livelihood.
The government set up headquarters with capable officials to prevent flood damage, paying primary attention to thoroughgoing preparations against the rainy season well adapted to the local conditions in the cities and counties.
To begin with, deposits have been cleanly removed from the gutters, the destroyed gutters and ditches have been repaired and the rainwater pumping stations have been readjusted so that the water from heavy rains in cities might flow out of the urban zones.
And drainage sluices connected to rivers have been repaired.
Meanwhile, a campaign got into full stride to protect crops from floods and rainstorms.
In rural areas of North and South Hwanghae and other provinces, the masses were roused to action to set up drainage pumping stations at spots where water gathers in the rainy season, excavate waterway-beds, improve rivers and reinforce banks.

Struggle against S. Korean Reactionary Conservatives Urged

Pyongyang, July 2 (KCNA) -- The pro-American conservative forces in south Korea are a stumbling block to the independent development of the nation as they swim against the desire and demand of the fellow countrymen and the trend of times.
Rodong Sinmun says this in a signed article on Wednesday.
Down through generations, they have zealously advocated the U.S. imperialists' military presence and domination over south Korea to maintain their traitorous ruling system and perpetuate the national division under the patronage of the U.S., the article notes, and goes on:
Such desperate moves have delayed the progress in the patriotic cause of the Koreans for national reconciliation, unity and independent reunification.
Their moves against the nation and reunification have been further intensified after traitor Lee Myung Bak took office. In consequence of such criminal acts of the group of traitors the distrust and confrontation are growing acute between the north and the south and the danger of a war increasing, far from expecting national reconciliation and unity and peace and reunification.
The Lee group is running amuck to reverse the trend of history, staking their fates only on the sycophancy towards the U.S. and dependence on foreign forces in disregard of the reunification of the country and the destiny of the nation. Its wrong behaviors give a greatly negative effect to the Korean nation's struggle for carving out its independent destiny.
Now the Korean nation are striving to usher in the new era of the independent reunification, peace and prosperity by implementing the historic June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, its action program.
It is as clear as noonday that the reunification and peace of the country and the co-prosperity of the nation can not be achieved without removing the Lee group who denies the said declarations and oppose their implementation.
The Koreans will dynamically usher in the new era of independent reunification, peace and prosperity, smashing the desperate moves of the south Korean pro-U.S. conservatives with ardent patriotism and by their united efforts.

Lee Myung Bak's Deceptive Charade under Fire

Pyongyang, July 2 (KCNA) -- The "special press conference" called by Lee Myung Bak and the reshuffle carried out by him only betrayed his sinister intention to calm down the daily mounting resentment of the people in south Korea and get rid of the worst crisis.
Minju Joson Wednesday says this in a signed commentary.
    It goes on:
Candlelight demonstrations now underway in south Korea lead to the actions against all policies of Lee. They are now developing into the movements demanding the resignation of the "government" under the slogans "Let's impeach Lee Myung Bak!" and "Lee Myung Bak, step down!"
All members of the puppet Cabinet have already tendered their resignation, the "National Assembly" has not been in session for more than two months and "support rate" for Lee has sunk as low as less than 10 percent.
It is the trite method of the successive fascist cliques of south Korea to stage a crafty and deceptive charade whenever they faced the massive resistance of the people. The "special press conference" called by Lee and his hue and cry over "change in the pure nature of candlelight demonstration" are nothing but a crafty ploy to tide over the serious crisis and get rid of the abyss of ruin at any cost through the tactics to appease and hoodwink people and fascist suppression of them.
The prevailing situation reminds one of the June People's Resistance more than two decades ago when the military fascist dictators tided over the crisis by issuing the hypocritical "June 29 declaration" and usurped the fruits reaped by the south Koreans through their struggle for democracy. It is no more than a daydream for Lee Myung Bak to try to deceive the people and mislead the public opinion at home and abroad, concludes the commentary.

Fascist Suppression of Candlelight Demonstrators Denounced

Pyongyang, July 2 (KCNA) -- The People's Measure Council against the Total Opening of south Korean Markets to American Beef held a press conference in the plaza of the Seoul City Office on June 29 denouncing the Lee Myung Bak group's fascist suppression of the participants of the candlelight demonstrations, according to MBC of south Korea.
The organization accused the policemen of resorting to such indiscriminate suppression of participants of a candlelight demonstration at the night of June 28 as brandishing cudgels and shields and mercilessly trampling down upon them with jackboots, seriously wounding at least 300 protesters.
The "government's" assertion that the people's struggle against the import of beef is a "violent demonstration" is nothing but a ploy to twist the nature of their actions, the organization held, demanding Lee Myung Bak apologize to the people without delay.
The organization declared that mammoth candlelight demonstrations would be staged throughout south Korea on July 2 and 5 with one million people participating in them.
On June 29 lawmakers from the Democratic Party for Unity of south Korea visited the puppet police office where they demanded punishment of those policemen who assaulted legislators from opposition parties and an immediate halt to the fascist crackdown upon candlelight actions.

"Government's" Joint Statement Assailed in S. Korea

Pyongyang, July 2 (KCNA) -- Opposition parties of south Korea on June 29 criticized the "emergency joint statement" announced by the puppet government openly revealing its intention for fascist suppression of candlelight demonstrations.
A spokesman of the Democratic Party for Unity pointed out that the puppet government in the "statement" declared it would keep strict control over the "violent demonstrations." This would only aggravate the situation as it meant an intention to bring the history back to the era of the military fascist dictatorship of the "fifth republic," he said.
The deputy spokesman for the Democratic Labor Party said that the "statement" is little short of an official declaration on "restoration of dictatorship." The "government's" tough counteraction will be emasculated by sea of angry people," he warned.

Suppression of Demonstrations Flayed in S. Korea

Pyongyang, July 2 (KCNA) -- The Democratic Party for Unity of south Korea issued a statement on June 30, branding the Lee Myung Bak "government" as an undemocratic and unpopular regime, according to CBS of south Korea.
Denouncing the "government" for its fascist suppression of the candlelight demonstrations, the statement held that the candlelight raised by the people can never be put out with water cannons, liquid tear gas, arrest and detention and the situation can not be settled with recourse to the means of violent suppression used in the era of the military dictatorship.
KBS reported that the People's Measure Council against the Total Opening of south Korean Markets to American Beef called a press conference on June 30 at which it condemned the police authorities for searching offices of the civic and public organizations which spearheaded the candlelight actions against the beef import.
It will set July 5 as "day of candlelight cultural event for declaring the people's victory" and launch a dynamic struggle, the council stated, calling upon all the political parties and religious bodies except the "Grand National Party" to participate in the event.
The Citizens' Solidarity for a Democratic Society, the Solidarity for Progress of south Korea and the Bar Association for a Democratic Society in south Korea separately called press conferences on the same day at which they accused the security authorities of resorting to the same suppression of the civic and public organizations as done in the old era, labeling them as "back-stage forces of candlelight demonstrations."
At the end of the press conference the Bar Association submitted to the prosecution a bill of indictment against dozens of those related to the suppression, among them the chief of the puppet Police Office, the chief of the Seoul District Police Office and the chief of the Ryongsan Police Station.

Candlelight Actions Unabated in Seoul

Pyongyang, July 2 (KCNA) -- More than 50,000 Catholic believers and citizens from all walks of life in south Korea launched a candlelight action against the American beef import in Seoul on June 30.
The 54th candlelight meeting was held at the plaza of the City Office.
Speakers at the meeting declared that all the religionists would defend the spirit of the candlelight actions from the riot police's violence with their firm will and courage to fight against injustice.
They urged Lee Myung Bak to admit the failure of the negotiations on the beef import, make an apology to the people, repeal the "official instructions" and opt for the total renegotiations with the U.S.
Then the participants in the meeting started a demonstration march, which was joined by other religionists and citizens.
They gathered at the plaza again to express the will to continue the candlelight action in the future, too.
At least 100 priests of the Catholic Priests' Association for Justice went on a hunger strike from that night after pitching tents at the plaza.
