Lee Myung Bak Group Accused of Hindering Implementation of Inter-Korean Agreement

Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the north side's delegation to the North-South Military Talks released a statement Sunday condemning the Lee Myung Bak group's trickery and confrontational moves.
The Lee group has failed to implement any provision in the agreement on passage, customs clearance and communications directly related to the cooperation and exchange in Kaesong and Mt. Kumgang areas and instead, is egging the conservative puppet military on to intentionally throw a stumbling block to its implementation, the statement pointed out, and said:
The above-said agreement is a commitment common to the nation, which was ardently requested by the south side and then accepted by the Korean People's Army side with bold stand and magnanimity out of compatriotism during the historic north-south summit meeting last October.
As far as the cooperation and exchange in Kaesong and Mt. Kumgang areas are concerned, they are unprecedentedly nationwide projects as they could be realized thanks to the bold measures of opening the tightly closed Military Demarcation Line and offering militarily important vantage points taken by the KPA side to promote the common interests and co-prosperity of the nation in the idea of "By our nation itself".
The KPA is compelled to ponder over the need to continue providing military guarantees for the cooperation and exchange projects in the above-said areas, given that the implementation of the agreement on passage, customs clearance and communications essential for the reenergizing the projects are in the danger of suspension.
To negate the historic June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, a programme for its implementation, and hinder the implementation of all the north-south agreements is a clear proof of the attitude standing against the development of north-south relations and peace and prosperity and a treacherous and anti-reunification act intended to go toward division and confrontation while ignoring the fellow countrymen.
The army and people of the DPRK will closely follow the future attitude and moves of the south Korean puppet military toward all the north-south agreements including the agreement on passage, customs clearance and communications.

Anniversary of Kim Il Sung's Work Marked

Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- A Pyongyang City meeting was held at the Central Youth Hall Monday to mark the 35th anniversary of President Kim Il Sung's famous work "Let Us Prevent a National Partition and Reunify the Country".
Present there were Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Yong Dae, chairman of the C.C., the Korean Social Democratic Party, Ryu Mi Yong, chairwoman of the C.C., the Chondoist Chongu Party, Kang Ryon Hak, chairman of the C.C., the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland, An Kyong Ho, director of the Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, leading officials of social organizations and working people from all walks of life in the city.
Kim Ki Nam in a report made there said that the five-point policy for national reunification set forth by the President in the work is a Juche-oriented programme for reunification and a great political programme for national unity as it indicated practical ways of rejecting outsiders' interference and reunifying the country through harmony between the north and the south and the great national unity by meeting the requirements of the three principles of national reunification in all fields, the reporter said, and continued:
The five-point policy for national reunification set forth by the President encouraged the Korean nation to wage the struggle for national reunification more dynamically with the most just and realistic landmark.
The cause of national reunification started and led by the President is now being successfully carried out by General Secretary Kim Jong Il, the reporter noted, and continued:
Kim Jong Il comprehensively systematized the President's idea of national reunification and his leadership exploits through energetic ideological and theoretical activities and indicated the path to be followed by the reunification movement, thus bringing about a new landmark phase in the struggle for national reunification.
National reunification is the last instructions of the President and the supreme task facing the Korean nation, the reporter said, calling for firmly upholding and thoroughly implementing the WPK's Juche-oriented line and policies on national reunification.
The moves for a war of aggression on the part of the forces of the U.S. military and the south Korean warhawks have escalated the tension on the Korean Peninsula and increased the danger of a nuclear war with each passing day, the reporter said, adding that the reality clearly proves that there is no change in the aggressive nature of the U.S. and the south Korean warlike regime.
All political parties and organizations and Koreans from all walks of life in the north and the south and abroad should make tangible contributions to national reunification and the co-prosperity of the nation, strengthen solidarity and alliance and give further momentum to the nationwide movement for reunification by putting the interests of the nation above all irrespective of ideology, system, political view, religious belief and partisan interests and strategy.

KCNA Blasts Japanese Political Charlatans

Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- As already reported, working-level talks between the governments of the DPRK and Japan took place some days ago to settle the inglorious past and normalize the relations between the two countries according to the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration. A series of agreements were reached there.
In this regard, the international community hailed this as an event which opened up a prospect of settling the issue of the relations between the two countries in conformity with the common interests of their peoples and as required by the new century and made a breakthrough towards improving the bilateral relations.
But a spate of reckless remarks quite contrary to its expectation is now heard from among ultra rightist conservative forces of Japan. They are blustering that they "are opposed to easing the economic sanctions against north Korea" and a "unilateral policy of pressure should remain the core of policy towards north Korea".
Ultra rightist organizations such as the Dietmen's League from the Liberal Democratic Party and the "Headquarters of Measures for Settling the Abduction Issue" of the Democratic Party and former Prime Minister Abe and the secretary-general of the Democratic Party and other right-wing forces vied with each other in talking such rubbish as "lifting of the sanctions is premature" and "they sound a warning."
This is nothing but a sinister attempt to bar the relations between the DPRK and Japan from improving and a despicable bid of the political charlatans to achieve their partisan purpose.
The abnormal relations between the DPRK and Japan have lasted for more than half a century since the end of the Second World War.
This is harmful in every aspect.
To normalize the relations between the DPRK and Japan and develop the good-neighborly relations between the two countries are in line with the desire and interests of their peoples.
The improvement of the DPRK-Japan relations is not for one party but for the sake of Japan.
The normalization of the relations between the two countries, in particular, is stipulated in the joint document of the six-party talks.
If Japan persists in the confrontation with the DPRK as asserted by the right-wing forces of Japan at a time when certain progress is made in the process of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula, it will never be able to get rid of the situation where it is regarded as a cumbersome party at the six-party talks.
The ulterior aim sought by the Japanese right-wing conservative forces in making such desperate efforts to hamstring the process for improving the relations between the DPRK and Japan, ignoring the prevailing political environment, is to seize power, their highest partisan goal, and realize the militarization of Japan.
Their rhetoric that what they do is for the sake of national interests is throwing Japan into a dilemma as it is little short of sacrificing important points related to the establishment of the relations between the two countries.
Japan would be well advised to awaken itself so that it may stop swimming against the trend of the times.

Girl Called "Art Prodigy"

Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- An eight-year-old girl called "Art Prodigy" is now attracting public attention.
Kim Hyon Hui, a pupil of the Pyongyang Kallimgil Primary School, is a member of the art hobby group of the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace. She has created quite a stir by exhibiting her fine art pieces at the international children's art shows that took place in India, Egypt, the Czech Republic and other countries.
Ri Tong Hun, a teacher at the palace, who has trained the promising child artist said:
Kim Hyon Hui had extraordinary power of observation and artistic susceptibility already when she was a little child.
The teacher decided to give her systematic training, finding her uncommon sprouting artistic gift and talent which revealed her natural endowment.
She became a member of the art hobby group at the age of six and brought her talent into full bloom by receiving diverse education such as drawing a picture diary and observing the nature.
In June, Juche 95 (2006), in the second month after she began learning drawing, she presented her Korean painting "The Whole World Offers Felicitations" to a national exhibition of children's scientific illusionary pictures and skill to carry away special prize.
Her pen drawings "Pride in the Flower of Full Mark" and "Visiting the Aquarium" were awarded gold medal and diploma at the second national pencil drawing festival that opened in Pyongyang in February.
A diploma was awarded to her Korean painting "The Earth where We Live" at the Khabarovsk International Children's Art Show held in Russia in 2007.
Her works are characteristic of bold strokes, lucid depiction, peculiar emotion and vivid expression of child's mind.

Five-point Policy for National Reunification

Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- The Korean people with deep emotion are recollecting the feats performed by President Kim Il Sung who solemnly made public the Five-point Policy for National Reunification at home and abroad 35 years ago and thus dealt a heavy blow to the separatist forces, today when the reunification fever of the nation is growing stronger in accordance with the idea of "By our nation itself".
After the publication of the July 4 Joint Statement at the north-south high-level talks in Juche 61 (1972), all the Korean people were filled with faith in and enthusiasm for reunification.
But grave difficulties were created on the way to national reunification due to the moves of the traitors to the nation to make the division of Korea a fait accompli in the international arena.
It was none other than the President who saved the pro-reunification movement from the crisis and led the whole nation along the patriotic road of reunification in 1973 when the nation stood at the crossroads of reunification and permanent division in the history.
He heard the news of the treacherous "June 23 special statement" of the then south Korean ruler, on his way of on-the-spot guidance. With a surging indignation, he authored the five-point policy for national reunification phrase by phrase on the running train in order to bridge over the prevailing difficulties facing the nation.
He delivered the historic speech "Let Us Prevent a National Partition and Reunify the Country" four hours after the publication of the "separatist statement" on June 23. In the speech, he set forth the Five-point Policy for National Reunification, thus dealing an instant counterblow to the separatist theory of the anti-reunification elements and giving courage to the fellow-countrymen who aspired after reunification.
The contents of the policy is to eliminate military confrontation and ease the tension between the north and south, to achieve multilateral collaboration and interchange between the north and south, to convene a Great National Congress comprising representatives of people of all levels, political parties and social organizations from the north and south, to institute a north-south Federation named the Federal Republic of Koryo (FRK), and to enter the UN as a single state under the name of the FRK. All the provisions of the policy fully reflect the noble intention and firm resolution of the President to prevent the permanent division of the nation and achieve the national reunification without fail.
After the publication of the reunification declaration, the whole nation vigorously waged a struggle for the independent and peaceful reunification of the country, under the uplifted slogan "Korea is one!"
In this process, the north-south agreement was concluded to be a foundation in ensuring peace such as "Agreement on reconciliation, nonaggression, cooperation and interchange between the north and south" and pan-national pro-reunification events including the pan-national rally and grand reunification festival of youth and students were held, with the result that a great advance was made in a national reunification movement.
Manifold difficulties still lie on the road of reunification movement owing to the obstructions of the U.S. imperialists and the anti-reunification forces of south Korea. But the patriotic cause of reunification of the Korean nation is sure to emerge victorious as long as there are the immortal and great reunification programme advanced by the President and the banner of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration which are the embodiment of the programme.

Full Display of Spirit of Independence Called for

Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- The spirit of national independence serves as an ideological basis of great national unity. The Koreans are called upon to underscore the above-said spirit and fully display it and achieve and consolidate the great unity on its basis.
Rodong Sinmun Monday says this in a signed article.
The Korean nation has stronger patriotism than any other nations and is a proud nation with strong spirit of national independence, the article notes, and goes on:
The Koreans have always loved their country ardently and valiantly struggled for its dignity and sovereignty, not yielding to outside aggressors. The Japanese imperialists enforced the harshest colonial rule over Korea after occupying it for several decades in the past but they could not quell the strong spirit and indomitable stamina of the Korean nation. When the U.S. imperialists ignited the war in a bid to enslave the whole Korean nation, it honorably defended its sovereignty by heroic fighting in a do-or-die spirit.
The Koreans' spirit of national independence is now being more fully displayed thanks to the most vital Songun politics in the world.
If the Korean nation is to live and develop independently today, the June 15 era of reunification, it should embody the idea of "By our nation itself". The spirit of "By our nation itself" provided by the historic June 15 joint declaration to the Koreans constitutes a solid ideological basis for rallying close the Koreans as one under the patriotic banner, the banner of national reunification.
All Koreans should display ardent patriotism and transparent spirit of independence to augment the might of great national unity in every way. Herein lies a sure guarantee for advancing the cause of independent reunification to victory.
With no desperate efforts can foreign forces and the south Korean conservative ruling forces, their lackeys, bar the Korean nation from achieving great unity under the uplifted banner of national independence.

Lee Myung Bak's Sycophancy toward U.S. Assailed in S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification made public a statement on June 19, denouncing traitor Lee Myung Bak for his sycophancy and submission to the U.S.
Referring to the "special press conference" called by the traitor that day over the import of American beef, the statement charged that it was only to argue that south Korea cannot but rely on the U.S.
It pointed out that at the conference the traitor, talking about "tightened alliance" with the U.S. again, claimed that there is no other option but trading with the U.S. to tide over the economic crisis.
Referring to what he mentioned about "security," the statement said: He remains passive to the U.S., which is imposing sacrifice on the south Koreans, but takes hostile stand toward the north whose members are fellow countrymen. Such idol of his is a main source of posing a serious threat to security.
It held that if Lee is truly worried about "security", he should immediately drop his hostile policy toward the north and come out for the implementation of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration.
Candlelight will never die out unless there is change in his stand that is consistent with hostility toward the south Koreans and the north and sycophancy and submission toward the U.S., it warned.

Lee Myung Bak Regime's Educational Policy Censured in S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- A seminar was held at the meeting hall of the Teachers' Union of south Korea in Seoul on June 19 to slam the Lee Myung Bak "government's" moves to teach treacherous and anti-reunification history. It was attended by persons of different social standings.
Speakers at the seminar recalled that the "history textbook" published by "Textbook Forum" of the "National Alliance of Neo-cons" in March is peppered with a spate of anti-reunification sophism slandering the June 15 joint declaration.
They declared they could hardly repress their resentment at the conservatives' claim that the pro-Japanese elements were the "main political force in the movement for independence before the liberation of the country."
The "guidelines for education in the unification issue" worked out by the "Ministry of Unification" recently do not contain such phraseologies against the U.S. as the injustice of relocating the U.S. forces and expressions related to peace, but contain the Lee Myung Bak "government's" policy toward the north, which does not deal at all with contents of the June 15 joint declaration, and such words as "pragmatism" oft-repeated by the group of traitors, they stressed.
Deploring that the contents of the education to be conducted in the reunification issue on the occasions of the anniversary of the publication of the June 15 joint declaration and August 15, the day of the country's liberation, and on other occasions are no longer to be seen in the guidelines, they termed this an action of the present "government" to put an end to the education in the reunification issue which incurs its displeasure and teach the students treacherous and anti-reunification history.

KCTU Vows to Struggle for Victory of Workers

Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions held an extraordinary meeting of its deputies in Seoul on June 19 at which it vowed to struggle for the victory of the workers.
The meeting discussed and decided on a plan for the KCTU's all-out struggle in June and July.
The organization declared that 100,000 unionists would take part in the second mammoth candlelight march to judge the Lee Myung Bak "government."
Speakers at the meeting said that the organization would take an active part in the candlelight actions against the American beef import, declaring that no one can dampen the spirit of candlelight actions.
A resolution read out at the meeting noted that the general strike of 800,000 unionists is sure to win, stressing that the KCTU would fight to frustrate the Lee Myung Bak regime's anti-worker, neo-liberal policy.

"48 Hour-Long Emergency People's Action" Simultaneously Starts throughout S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- Candlelight struggle called "48 hour-long emergency people's action" was simultaneously kicked off throughout south Korea on June 21.
People from all walks of life throughout south Korea, infuriated by the announcement of the results of the additional negotiations with the U.S., turned out in streets in protest against the group of traitors' deceptive farce that day.
In Seoul, a large-scale candlelight struggle was staged as part of the "48 hour-long emergency people's action" against the import of American beef with at least 100,000 members of civic and social organizations, youth, students and citizens involved.
Speakers at the candlelight rally held in the plaza of the City Office pointed to the fact that the Lee Myung Bak group announced the results of the additional negotiations on the import of American beef that day, adding that there is no other way for the "government" than to have renegotiations in order to truly protect the lives and safety of the people and Lee Myung Bak is the specified dangerous man who should be eliminated by the people before any others.
At the end of the rally, its participants staged a demonstration.
Prior to the candlelight action, the People's Measure Council against the Total Opening of south Korean Markets to American Beef held a press conference.
The organization declared at the conference that the Lee Myung Bak group's additional negotiations are nothing but a charade to hoodwink the people and to let private traders ban the export of beef from cattle older than 30 months according to the regulation set by themselves is absolutely ineffective.
The security authorities rushed more than 10,000 riot policemen of 108 companies to the scene of the demonstration to crack down upon the protesters.
Similar candlelight actions took place in Pusan, Kwangju, Taejon, Taegu, and Masan of South Kyongsang Province, Chongju and Umsong of North Chungchong Province, and Chunchon, Kangrung, Wonju and Nyongwol of Kangwon Province of south Korea.
