Firm Adherence to Stand of National Independence Called for

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- The present era calls for settling all issues from an independent and patriotic stand while giving overriding importance to the country and the nation.
Rodong Sinmun Monday says this in a signed article.
Such practices as putting foreign forces above the nation and regarding cooperation with foreign forces more important than that with fellow countrymen are being reported from south Korea quite contrary to the trend of the times, the article notes, and goes on:
The Koreans have not yet established national sovereignty throughout Korea due to the U.S. colonial enslavement policy toward south Korea and its moves to keep south Korea as its military base and the sycophantic and traitorous politics and the policy of depending on outside forces pursued by the successive south Korean ruling forces, its lackeys.
In order to establish national sovereignty throughout Korea and fully exalt the dignity and honor of the nation it is necessary for it to hold high the banner of national independence.
The Lee Myung Bak regime is openly putting the issue of national independence on the back-burner and pursuing sycophancy and dependence on foreign forces while talking about "lost decade" and "recovery".
Upon coming to power, the new conservative ruling forces begged the U.S. to cancel its plan to cut down the troops in south Korea, offering to pay more funds for their upkeep.
The "pragmatic government's" opening of the south Korean market to American beef is the most vivid expression of its sycophantic and traitorous policy as it is an intolerable act of selling off the dignity and interests of the south Korean people to bring profits to Americans.
The Lee regime had better give up the above-said anachronistic view and stand, though belatedly, as demanded by the south Korean people.

S. Korean Authorities' Suppression of Juveniles Assailed

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- The People's Measure Council for Opposing the Total Opening of Market to American Beef in south Korea called a press conference outside the general building of the "government" in Kwanghwamun, Seoul, on May 8 to denounce the authorities for the suppression of youth and children in the protest against import of American beef.
At the press conference speakers charged that the authorities are kicking up a racket of crackdown, talking about someone's "backstage manipulation", upset by the candlelight rallies against import of American beef involving even students of middle and high schools.
The minister of Education, Science and Technology told at an emergency meeting on May 7 that students' participation in rallies is undesirable in an educational aspect and the superintendent of education in Seoul singled out the Teachers Union as their "backstage wirepuller," they pointed out.
The "government" is labeling youth and children as seditious forces, they said, demanding halt to such slander against the youth and children who have set out in the struggle voluntarily, not at the instigation of anyone.
They warned that the authorities' intensified suppression would only make the candlelight stronger.

Candlelight Rallies against Import of American Beef Held in S. Korea

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- Candlelight rallies took place in at least 30 provinces, cities and counties of south Korea on May 9 in protest against the import of American beef with more than 80,000 people from all walks of life attending. A candlelight rally for condemning traitor Lee Myung Bak was held at Chonggye Plaza of Seoul under the sponsorship of the People's Measure Committee against the Total Opening of South Korean Market to American Beef.
It was attended by members of at least 1 500 political parties, civic and public organizations, workers, students, Internet subscribers and students of middle and high schools, at least 20,000 in all.
Recalling that a stockbreeder committed suicide in protest against the opening of south Korean market to American beef that day, the participants in the rally accused the Lee Myung Bak "government" of taking no measures to settle the problem.
Noting that the "government", the Grand National Party and conservative media are claiming that "there are some forces behind the on-going actions" against the import of American beef, they declared it was Lee Myung Bak and his "government" that compelled them to turn out in the struggle.
The participants shouted slogans such as "no mad cow, total nullification!" each holding a candlelight in one hand and waving the other hand bound with a white tape in token of their demand for a total nullification of the negotiations on beef.
Similar candlelight rallies simultaneously took place across south Korea including Seoul, Pusan, Taegu, Inchon and Kwangju on May 10.

All-out Struggle for Eliminating Lee Myung Bak Called for

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- The United Confederation of Koreans in the Far East of Russia and the Central Association of Korean Nationals in Russia held a rally in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on May 8 to denounce the treacherous act of the south Korean authorities.
Published at the rally was a joint appeal titled "Let's turn out in the nationwide struggle to mete out a stern punishment to the group of traitors hell bent on acts of treachery in collusion with foreign forces".
Noting that no sooner had the Lee Myung Bak group come to power than it totally revised the former "government's policy toward the north" while giving priority to the relations with the U.S. and, at the same time, staged large-scale nuclear war exercises targeted against the north together with outside forces, the appeal condemned it as a group of the worst traitors.
What should not be overlooked is that the Lee group did not hesitate to let loose a string of reckless remarks that they "would totally reexamine" the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration supported by all Koreans, it said, bitterly denouncing traitor Lee Myung Bak for his sycophancy toward the U.S. and treacherous acts.
Neither independent reunification nor peace and prosperity of the nation can be achieved as long as the traitor is allowed to prolong his days by selling off the interests of the nation to outside forces and kowtowing to them, it stressed.
It ardently called upon all Koreans' organizations and compatriots overseas to turn out in a nationwide struggle to completely eliminate Lee Myung Bak hell bent on sycophancy toward the U.S. and cooperation with foreign forces.

Lee Myung Bak's Junkets to U.S. and Japan Flayed in South Africa

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- The Mfumalanga Provincial Committee of the South African Communist Party and the South African Association of Friendship and Solidarity with Korean People jointly released a bulletin protesting traitor Lee Myung Bak's junkets to the U.S. and Japan on May 6.
The bulletin in an article said that the visits to the U.S. and Japan paid by the present south Korean chief executive pursuing the policy of confrontation between the north and the south were evidently a sycophantic and treacherous, war junket as he totally sold off the interests of the Korean nation to the foreign forces. They were also part of the shameful anti-reunification campaign for intensifying the inter-Korean confrontation, it added.
    It went on:
Now the world people regard the division of Korea, which has lasted for over 60 years due to the foreign forces, as the only leftover of the Cold War remaining on earth at present and ardently hope that its reunification will be realized by the united efforts of the Korean nation free from outsiders' interference.
If the present south Korean chief executive persistently incites the confrontation between the north and the south with the backing of the U.S., the chieftain of aggression and war, turning aside from the trend of the present times, he will be severely punished by the world's peace-loving peoples without fail as his action is a heinous crime of perpetuating the division of Korea and wrecking peace in Northeast Asia and the rest of the world.
The article strongly urged the ruling forces of south Korea to behave themselves clearly seeing the present trend toward peace, immediately drop the policy of confrontation between the north and the south and take the road of finding the way to realize the national reunification as early as possible by the united efforts of the Koreans.
