Kim Jong Il Inspects KPA Unit
Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected KPA Unit 1105 honored with the title of O Jung Hup-led 7th Regiment.
He acquainted himself with the unit's performance of duty and watched the training of its command staff and firepower drill before setting forth the tasks to be fulfilled by the unit to increase its combat capability in every way.
He said that the commanding officers of the unit should do any work, always focusing efforts on the training and make sure that the military and political work in the unit is oriented and subordinated to ensuring successful training.
He learned about the political work in the unit, looking round the servicepersons' hall and library and other cultural and educational facilities.
He underscored the need to train all servicepersons as vanguard fighters of the revolution fully armed with high revolutionary and working class consciousness so that they may become young heroes in the Songun era who ardently love the country and unhesitatingly dedicate their youth and lives to the fight for the country just as Hero Ri Su Bok did.
He met Kim Myong Chol, winner of Kim Il Sung Youth Honour Prize, and had a warm talk with him.
He noted that Korean-style socialism is sure to triumph as the People's Army, a group of indomitable fighters strong in idea and faith, is standing firm as the pillar for the revolution.
He paid deep attention to the servicepersons' living, going round the Soldiers' Health Complex, a combined welfare service centre newly built by the unit, and supply service facilities.
He expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the unit has provided the servicepersons with good living conditions and appreciated the efforts made by the commanding officers including the commander of the unit who has done a lot of work, serving at the same post for more than three decades.
He highly estimated the achievements made by the unit in the past, saying that the unit honored with the above-said title is a model not only in military and political training but in supply service, in the cultural and moral level, management and in all other aspects.
The present reality in which all units are making great contributions to boosting the military capability by bringing about a signal turn in the supply service proves in practice the validity of the teaching of President Kim Il Sung that supply service precisely means a political work, he noted, underlining the need to continue taking a firm hold on the work.

DPRK's Will to Boost Regional Cooperation Expressed
Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The DPRK government will further boost cooperation with regional countries in achieving the millennium development objective through its efforts for the development of the national economy and the improvement of the standard of people's living in the future, too.
The head of the DPRK delegation declared this stand when addressing the 64th general meeting of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific held in Thailand from April 23 to 30.
Referring to the achievements made by the commission last year, he said that if the Asia-Pacific region is to steadily maintain its position as a region propelling the world economic development in conformity with the present changed circumstances, it is necessary to decide on more concrete strategy and plan and take practical measures for promoting the sustained economic and social development.

It is, above all, essential to map out a regional action program and carry it out in order to effectively deal with such pending global issues as rise in oil and food prices and the instability in the financial market.
Also, regional cooperation should be ensured in such way as to encourage each country to build the national economy and society suited to its specific conditions and circumstances in conformity with regional features characterized by gap in level of development and cultural tradition among countries and increase its capability to do so.

Kim Yong Nam Meets Brazilian Delegation
Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, met and had a friendly talk with the delegation of the Brazilian Communist Party led by Jose Renato Rabelo, its national chairman, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on May 5.
On hand were Kim Thae Jong, vice-department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, and officials concerned.
The head of the delegation said that during his visit to the DPRK he witnessed achievement made by the Korean people in the revolution and construction under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.

National Workers' Sports Contest Held
Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The 8th sports contest among workers from across the country was held in Pyongyang from April 29 to May 5.
The contest brought together more than 500 men and women worker players selected from different provinces and the Ministry of Railways. They competed in various events including football, basketball and seesaw.
They successfully displayed militant spirit and noble moral traits of working class and sports technique they have trained in the course of conducting mass sports activities.
At the contest players of south Phyongan Province came first in the team standing.

Bird Flu Prevention Work Intensified in DPRK
Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The DPRK is exerting greater effort to prevent the avian flu spreading in wide areas of the world because of the spring migration of wild birds.
In an interview with KCNA Ri Kyong Gun, chief of the veterinary section under the State Emergency Quarantine Committee, said the DPRK is conducting epizootic work against bird flu on a regular basis every year in close cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
In connection with the recent outbreak of avian flu in areas of North and South Cholla Provinces, south Korea, he continued to say, we are intensifying the anti-epizootic campaign to prevent the bird flu which exerts harmful influence on the national economy and people from spreading to the north.
The committee held a section meeting and newly worked out regulations of the anti-avian influenza work and emergency rules of conduct at its outbreak. A nation-wide anti-epizootic campaign is being dynamically undertaken in accordance with them.
The ministries, national institutions and the provincial, city and county people's committees are bringing the harmful influence of the bird flu and prevention methods home to the employees and inhabitants so as to turn out in the campaign as one.
The Central Epizootic Prevention Centre and the provincial epizootic prevention institutions have established an epizootic prevention system in accordance with the world avian epidemiology and set up more than 1,600 watch posts in east and west coastal areas, the main courses of seasonal bird migration. As a result, they are surveying the movement of birds, main propagator, in detail.
They are grasping closely the habitats of seasonal birds to take measures against any abnormal phenomena in time. People are allowed to raise poultry only in yards to prevent them from the contact with seasonal birds and relevant organs are testing excrements of migratory birds and dead birds.

Tradition of Great National Unity Successfully Inherited
Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The Korean people are striving hard to achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of the country true to the Juche-oriented idea of the great national unity.
The tradition of the great national unity which has been accepted and supported by all the Korean people was established 72 years ago.
On May 5, Juche 25 (1936) President Kim Il Sung founded the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland, an anti-Japanese national united front body, for realizing and protecting the independence of the nation. The association embodied in an all round way the idea of the great national unity which calls upon all the classes and strata to put the demand and interests common to the nation above all and firmly unite as one irrespective of the difference of idea, political view and religious belief, property status and social position.
The foundation of the association made it possible to closely rally the broad sections of patriotic forces including workers and peasants and firmly build up the internal force of the revolution in Korea.
Thanks to the wise leadership and devoted efforts of the President the Korean people defeated the Japanese imperialists and accomplished the historical cause of national liberation with their efforts, united as one under the revolutionary banner of the Ten-point Programme of the ARF.
Basing himself on the brilliant successes and abundant experience in solidly uniting the broad sections of patriotic forces through the formation of the ARF, the President put forward the "10-point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation for the Reunification of the Country"(April 1993).
The tradition of the great national unity provided by the President is successfully carried forward by General Secretary Kim Jong Il on higher level.
He made public various works including "Let Us Carry out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification" (August 1997) and "Let Us Reunify the Country Independently and Peacefully through the Great Unity of the Entire Nation" (April 1998), thus providing a weighty guideline for implementing the President's instructions for national reunification with concerted efforts of the nation.
He also provided historic north-south summit meetings on two occasions to open the June 15 reunification era, in which the people are turning out in the efforts for achieving the reunification "By our nation itself".

KCNA Blasts Lee Myung Bak's Junket to U.S.
Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- Lee Myung Bak of south Korea committed deed of selling off the interests of the nation when he visited the United States as the first "overseas trip" after taking office.
Talking about the south Korea-U.S. "alliance," he asked for stop to reduction of the U.S. forces in south Korea and made concession to the U.S. demands for increasing the share of upkeep for the forces, dispatching south Korean troops to Afghanistan again and opening the market to American beef and so forth. This is what he did during the recent junket.

And he openly threatened that the U.S. would raise this matter at the negotiations on share of the upkeep if south Korea did not agree to this demand.
After all, Lee agreed to such demand in return for the "cost" for some days of his stay at Camp David.
During the junket, he also agreed to open the market to American beef, thus driving the stockbreeding of south Korea and 87 percent of its stock-raising households into collapse.
The south Korean people have termed the total permission to import of American beef an act of introducing "time bomb," denouncing it as a policy of selling off to the U.S. the lives of the people and their quarantine sovereignty.
South Korea is being further reduced to a colony of the U.S. in political, military, economic and all other fields of society by such sycophantic traitors as the Lee Myung Bak gentries.
Today south Korea is in such disgraceful position that it has to offer land as the U.S. military bases, dispatch to Afghanistan and Iraq in wars its youths as cannon fodder and bear even huge amount of expenses for the upkeep of the U.S. aggression forces and their war moves against the DPRK.
After all, this is the results of the "alliance" with outsiders and "pragmatism" much touted by the Lee group.
With such sycophantic and traitorous forces calling for the "alliance" in disregard of the nation's interests left intact, it is impossible to expect independence and democracy in south Korea, to say nothing of the security of the nation and reunification of the country.
Lee Myung Bak's Junket to Japan Branded as Treacherous
Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- Traitor Lee Myung Bak's recent junket to Japan was, in a word, a disgusting pro-Japanese treacherous one as it served to connive at the past crimes of the Japanese imperialists, and it was an anti-national criminal visit intended to stifle the fellow countrymen in collusion with the Japanese reactionaries over the nuclear issue and the "abduction issue."

There have been not a few pro-Japanese traitors among the successive rulers of south Korea, but it is only traitor Lee Myung Bak who openly expressed the will to hush up the Japanese imperialists' past crimes, the commentary points out, and says:
What cannot be overlooked is that during his junket Lee Myung Bak persisted in the sinister and treacherous, tightened tie-ups with Japan, calling for "close three-party relationship." The "close three-party relationship" touted by Lee means, in essence, the formation and strengthening of the aggression alliance designed to realize the strategic interests of the U.S. and Japan against the DPRK.
The traitor also begged Japan to support and cooperate with south Korea's "policy towards the north" based on "no nukes, opening and 3,000 dollars" and talked about the "abduction issue" in return. As shown above, Lee Myung Bak committed in Japan such traitorous deeds as selling off the dignity and interests of the nation only, with nothing to gain from it. He meanly asked the Japanese king to visit south Korea but received only response as good as refusal. This proves that the traitor is not worth even a penny and his diplomacy of offering tributes is unavoidable.
Lee Myung Bak is No.1 traitor who ingratiates himself with the foreign forces and does not hesitate to sell off the destiny and interests of the nation for them.
The south Korean people and all other Koreans will never pardon the Lee Myung Bak gentries who are rushing headlong towards the road of treachery while valuing the foreign forces much more than the fellow countrymen and colluding with them.
Rodong Sinmun on National Independence
Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- National independence serves as an ideological treasured sword and a banner of struggle that make it possible for the Koreans to improve the north-south relations and bring about a turning phase for national reunification by their concerted efforts.
Rodong Sinmun today stresses this in a signed article.
The present situation prevailing on the Korean Peninsula calls on the north and the south to steadfastly adhere to the principle of national independence, the article says, and goes on:
The United States is inciting the south Korean authorities to confrontation with the fellow countrymen while drastically beefing up its aggression forces in south Korea as ones for preemptive attack on the DPRK. The conservative ruling forces of south Korea, who have not an iota of consciousness of national independence, are hell-bent on confrontation with the DPRK, zealously following the U.S. imperialists' hostile policy toward it. Advocating "priority to relationship" and cooperation with outsiders, the Lee Myung Bak group is getting evermore undisguised in its moves against the fellow countrymen and reunification. In this way it seeks to totally block the north-south relations, overturn all the achievements made in the era of June 15 reunification and leave Korea as a whole to the tender mercy of outsiders.
If the anti-reunification forces at home and abroad are allowed to commit such moves contrary to the principle of national independence, it will be impossible to expect either the development of the inter-Korean relations or progress in the movement for independent reunification.
The inter-Korean relations should be developed on the principle of national independence as this is an internal issue of the nation to be settled by the united efforts of the Koreans.
The Korean nation has favorable conditions enough to develop the north-south relations and the reunification movement on the above-said principle.
The Koreans, who are stronger in national identity than any other people, are fully capable of solving the matters of the north-south relations and the national reunification independently on the basis of the spirit of national independence.
U.S. Bellicose Forces' Anti-DPRK Report under Fire
Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The report "New start" published by the U.S. conservative hard-liners is a very provocative and dangerous war scenario and document to invade the DPRK with arms, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary.
Contained in the report formulated by the U.S. and south Korean schemers from January this year are the establishment of a new system of discussion between the U.S. and south Korea for "cooperation in shaping policy toward north Korea," etc., the commentary says, and goes on:
What should not be overlooked is that the U.S. conservative hard-liners called for rounding off the anti-DPRK war plans including the "OPLAN 5027" and "OPLAN 5029-05" in the report, talking about the "necessity'' of tightening the U.S.-south Korea relations of "alliance."
The U.S. has already worked out and made public several war plans to invade the DPRK.
No article in the above-said plans authorizes the U.S. forces in south Korea to create war circumstances and spark off military conflicts on their own initiative. But it is stipulated in the "OPLAN 5029-05" that the U.S. forces present in south Korea can exercise the rights to command all military operations under "specific circumstances." This shows that they can provoke a war against the DPRK any time on their own initiative according to their own decision.
They seek to finally examine and round off the war plans to invade the DPRK mainly aimed to create war circumstances and actively spark off military conflicts in the Korean Peninsula. This is the main point of the report.
The U.S. bellicose forces, however, are seriously mistaken.
They should clearly understand the DPRK and immediately stop the dangerous war moves.
Impeachment of Lee Myung Bak Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- Amid increased struggle against the import of beef from the U.S. in south Korea, a large-scale candlelight rally and a demonstration took place in Seoul on May 2 in demand of the impeachment of Lee Myung Bak.
They were attended by members of political parties and civic and public organizations including the Democratic Labor Party and the Headquarters of the All-People Movement for Impeachment of Lee Myung Bak and people from all walks of life, more than 13,000 in all.
Speakers at the rally accused the "government" of its imprudent decision to import American beef plagued with "mad cow disease", denouncing the Lee Myung Bak group for pursuing policies indifferent to the people's interests and letting loose a spate of reckless remarks as it pleases.
What he uttered during his junkets to the U.S. and Japan revealed his ignorance of basic understanding of history and lack of independent conception, they said, adding the traitor deserves impeachment.
Noting that signature campaign demanding the impeachment of the traitor is widely underway through Internet, they called for punishing the sycophantic and treacherous regime opposed to the people without fail.
At the end of the rally the participants marched chanting slogans calling for impeaching Lee Myung Bak.
Prior to this, over 4,000 students, housewives and people of different social standings held a meeting in front of the Dong-A Ilbo office, strongly denouncing the conservative media for their acts of blindfolding people and stopping their ears in favor of the sycophantic and treacherous regime.
At least 200,000 have so far taken part in the signature campaign against the import of beef from the U.S. and over 700,000 signed for impeachment of Lee.
Traitor Lee Myung Bak's Rash Act Assailed in S. Korea
Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions made public a statement on April 30 to denounce traitor Lee Myung Bak for his pro-Japanese act of supporting Japan's denial of the settlement of its past crimes.
Recalling that the Institute for National Studies and the Committee for Compiling Biographical Dictionary of Pro-Japanese Elements announced the list of 4,776 pro-Japanese lackeys to be entered in the pro-Japanese biographical dictionary on April 29, the statement continued:
The above-said lackeys did harm to the nation in active cooperation with the Japanese imperialists in their seizure of national rights of Korea, colonial rule and war of aggression. To liquidate such pro-Japanese elements is what should be done in order to redeem history and achieve justice.
Nevertheless, traitor Lee let loose sophism that the issue of pro-Japanese elements should be dealt with both "merits and fault" into equal consideration, saying that Japan's liquidation of its past crimes may cause "division of public opinion" and terming it "an act of negating legitimacy."

S. Korean Authorities' Unreasonable Policy on Education under Fire
Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification issued a statement on May 1, denouncing the unreasonable policy on education of the south Korean authorities.
The statement held that the "plan for promotion of campus autonomy" touted by the Lee Myung Bak group would not only eliminate the public nature of education and fuel corruption and human rights abuses but turn the campus into a place of exploiting manpower.
The dream, future and even personality of students are being violated under the Lee regime as it has neither correct view on education nor any responsibility for it, the statement added.
Referring to the sit-in hunger strike for an indefinite period and rallies, etc. being staged by teachers, students and their parents in demand of the withdrawal of the authorities' unreasonable policy on education, the statement stressed that the headquarters would wage a struggle against the said plan of the authorities in solidarity with the south Korean Teachers Union.
Anti-DPRK War Exercises in S. Korea
Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialist warmongers and their followers are staging madcap war exercises targeted against the DPRK while deploying their armed forces for aggression in south Korea, according to a military source.
A nuclear-powered guided missile submarine and guided missile destroyers of the U.S. imperialist aggression forces staged frantic submarine operations and guided missile launching exercises in waters off Tokjok Islet in the West Sea of Korea and areas around it in late April. They have since frantically staged anti-DPRK joint war exercises in the South Sea of Korea and in waters off Phyongthaek and Ulsan in coordinated operation with warships of the south Korean puppet naval force.
Timed to coincide with this, a nuclear-powered submarine of the U.S. imperialist naval aggression force conducted frantic joint anti-submarine exercises and exercises of commanding joint operation under the simulated conditions of an actual war in league with warships of the south Korean puppet naval force in the South Sea of Korea.
Some days ago, an information-gathering ship and a warship of the French navy staged madcap information gathering exercises and coordinated operation with the south Korean puppet navy in waters off Phyongthaek in the West Sea of Korea for nearly ten days with the said waters as an operational theatre.
Meanwhile, the U.S. imperialists let strategic bombers, fighter-bombers and pursuit assaults make long flights from overseas bases to a shooting range in Sangdong, Nyongwol County, south Korean Kangwon Province and fly back to the bases after bombing targets almost every day.
A few days ago, the units of special warfare of the U.S. imperialists aggression forces in south Korea and air-borne units for special warfare under the "command of special warfare" of the south Korean puppet army staged exercises of calling flying corps, mounting precision attack and providing close air support with the areas of south Korean Kangwon Province as an operational theatre being supported by A-10s belonging to the 51st regiment of fighters of the U.S. 7th Air Force.
The warmongers of the south Korean puppet army already introduced at least 30 F-15Ks into south Korea from the U.S. They now seek to purchase 20 more F-15Ks and hundreds of latest air-to-ground cruise missiles to go with them in the coming years.
Due to the above-said frantic arms buildup and war exercises, dangerous situation when a war may break out any moment is being created on the Korean Peninsula.

Pyongyang, 5 de mayo (ATCC) -- El Dirigente Kim Jong Il, Secretario General del Partido del Trabajo de Corea, Presidente del Comite de Defensa Nacional de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea y Comandante Supremo del Ejercito Popular de Corea, inspecciono una compania subordinada a la Unidad No.409 del EPC.
El Comandante Supremo hizo conocimiento del estado de cumplimiento del deber de la compania y vio ejercicios de los militares.
Se mostro satisfecho de que los jefes y los soldados de la compania crecen como combatientes dispuestos a pelear uno contra cien enemigos.
Dijo que el fortalecimiento de ejercicios es una garantia principal para elevar la combatividad y senalo que hay que prestar primordial atencion a la labor para materializar cabalmente la orientacion del partido en materia de entrenamiento.
Acto seguido, recorrio la sala de educacion, dormitorio, comedor, almacen de alimentos subsidiarios, bano, conejal y otros lugares atendiendo minuciosamente la labor y la vida de los militares.
Al enterarse del estado de uso de KARAOKE, se alegro de que los militares de la compania utilizan ampliamente los medios culturales y disfrutan de la vida cultural y sentimental y anadio que vivir y luchar de modo revolucionario siempre llenos de alegria y romanticismo es uno de los aspectos orgullosos de los militares del EPC.
Se entero minuciosamente del soleamiento del dormitorio, el grueso de frazada, los utensilios sanitarios y la calidad de agua del bano y evaluo que las instalaciones de intendencia se construyeron de manera comoda a la vida de los soldados.
Recalco que es muy importante intensificar la compania, unidad principal de combate del EPC y presento las tareas que se plantean en la labor para hacer de la compania una colectiva combativa dispuesta a combatir uno contra cien enemigos.
El Comandante Supremo dio como recuerdo binoculos, ametralladora y fusil automatico a los militares de la compania y se fotografio junto a ellos.
Le acompanaron los generales de ejercito del EPC, Hyon Chol Hae y Ri Myong Su.
Kim Yong Nam se reune con delegacion brasilena
Pyongyang, 5 de mayo (ATCC) -- El presidente del Presidium de la Asamblea Popular Suprema de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea, Kim Yong Nam departio este lunes en el capitalino Palacio de los Congresos Mansudae en un ambiente amistoso con la delegacion del Partido Comunista de Brasil presidida por su presidente nacional, Jose Renato Rabelo.
En la ocasion estuvieron presentes el subjefe de departamento del CC del Partido del Trabajo de Corea, Kim Thae Jong, y otros funcionarios.
El jefe de la delegacion dijo que durante su visita a Corea presencio los exitos que el pueblo coreano bajo la sabia direccion del Dirigente Kim Jong Il logro en la revolucion y la construccion.
Deseo al pueblo coreano, unido firmemente en torno al Dirigente, mayores exitos en su lucha por construir una gran potencia prospera y reunificar el pais.
RPDC fortalecera cooperacion con los paises de la region
Pyongyang, 5 de mayo (ATCC) -- El gobierno de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea fortalecera tambien en el futuro la cooperacion con los paises de la region para alcanzar la meta de desarrollo del milenio a traves de los esfuerzos por promover el desarrollo economico del pais y mejorar la vida del pueblo.
Asi senalo el jefe de la delegacion de la RPDC en su discurso pronunciado en la 64a asamblea general del Comite de Sociedad Economica Asia-Pacifico de las Naciones Unidas (CSEAPNU) efectuada del 23 al 30 de abril en Tailandia.
Se refirio a los exitos de la labor del ano pasado del CSEAPNU y subrayo que para mantener de continuo su posicion de estimulo al desarrollo economico del mundo, la region de Asia-Pacifico debe definir la estrategia y el plan concretos y tomar las medidas practicas que aceleran el desarrollo socio-economico sostenido conforme a la situacion cambiada de hoy.
A continuacion dijo:
Ante todo, es indispensable trazar y ejecutar el plan de accion regional para enfrentar eficazmente a la elevacion del precio de petroleo y viveres, la inestabilidad del mercado monetario y otros problemas que enfrenta el mundo en la actualidad.
Conforme a las caracteristicas de la region en que son distintos el nivel de desarrollo y las tradiciones culturales entre los paises, se debe lograr la cooperacion regional para impulsar la construccion de la economia nacional y la sociedad convenientes a las condiciones y circunstancias concretas de ellos y fortalecer sus capacidades.
Lo importante tambien es tomar las medidas practicas para fortalecer la cooperacion Sur-Sur entre los paises de la region.
