Seminar on Kim Jong Il's Juche-oriented Literary and Art Ideas Held

Pyongyang, March 21 (KCNA) -- A seminar on the Juche-oriented literary and art ideas was held Thursday to mark the 20th anniversary of General Secretary Kim Jong Il's guidance to the revolutionary drama "Celebration Meeting".
President Kim Il Sung personally created this famous masterpiece in the period of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle. It was successfully reproduced as "A Mountain Shrine"-style revolutionary drama under the guidance of Kim Jong Il two decades back.
The drama makes a truthful representation of the vulnerability of the Japanese imperialists who bluff, betraying their brigandish nature and inner contradictions. Thus, it teaches the truth of the revolution that imperialism is bound to go to ruin and the people are sure to win as they fight in single-minded unity, their hearts burning with the spirit of national independence.
Speakers at the seminar said that the creation of "Celebration Meeting" as a masterpiece of the era along with other revolutionary dramas "A Mountain Shrine", "Blood at an International Conference", "A Letter from a Daughter" and "Three Pretenders" under the energetic guidance of Kim Jong Il represented a great success that glorified the history of Juche-oriented dramatic art.
They stressed that the ideas and theories expounded by Kim Jong Il while guiding the said drama serve as important guidelines to be held fast to in the creation of revolutionary literary and art works in the era of Songun and a banner encouraging the creators and artistes in their work to produce masterpieces.
Such works as the revolutionary dramas "Under the Banner of Victory", "Wish" and "Woman Comrade of Mt. Paektu" successfully produced by the field of dramatic art are enriching the flower garden of the Juche-oriented dramatic art, they added.
The seminar was attended by Kang Nung Su, minister of Culture, Kim Pyong Hun, chairman of the Central Committee of the General Federation of the Unions of Literature and the Arts of Korea, officials concerned, creators, artistes, teachers and researchers.

Research Successes in Fishery Science

Pyongyang, March 21 (KCNA) -- Scientists of the Branch Academy of Fishery Science under the State Academy of Sciences keep extending research successes.
They are engaged in the efforts to increase and protect aquatic resources by the methods of artificial incubation and stocking waters with fish fry to suit the actual conditions.
They, basing themselves on the already-made successes in the establishment of artificial propagation technology of sea fishes such as sea urchin, sea cucumber and flatfish and Bivalvia, are deepening scientific researches with a target to release fry of sea fishes of new kinds.
They are solving the scientific and technological problems arising in the cultivation of sea weeds while properly fixing main kinds for mariculture including kelp culture and oyster breeding.
The scientists of the East Sea Institute of Mariculture and the West Sea Institute of Mariculture have gone to fishery stations from the beginning of the year to introduce various methods of fish breeding including breeding in coastal waters, ponds and net yards.
They are also solving the scientific and technological problems arising in breeding fishes such as Crustacea, Echinodermata, Bivalvia and gray mullet.
Efforts are concentrated on the scientific researches which are of great practical significance in firmly ensuring productivity at an early date by newly establishing sea culture and fish-farming suitable to regional features of coasts and introducing right species.
The scientists of the Institute of Fish-breeding Science are intensifying researches into mixed feed for fish suitable to the actual conditions.

Natural Springs Widely Used in DPRK

Pyongyang, March 21 (KCNA) -- A large quantity of natural spring water is supplied to the people for drinking in the DPRK.
Thousands of springs good in quality and abundant in quantity of water have been discovered up to now.
Jon Yong Song, room chief of the Sanitary Institute under the Academy of Medical Science, told KCNA on the occasion of the "World Water Day" (March 22) that the people are now supplied with natural spring water gushing at hundreds of spots which is completely aseptic, alkaline above pH 7 and proper in mineral content.
In Pyongyang alone water from dozens of natural springs are supplied to citizens for drinking.
Some time ago, another serviceable spring water station made its appearance in Mt. Ryongak, which is called "Mt. Kumgang" of Pyongyang, so that city dwellers can drink spring water from the mountain as much as they like.
Drinking water supply systems by natural flow have been set up in many areas of the country such as Kujang and Pakchon Counties, North Phyongan Province, and Kwail and Unryul Counties, South Hwanghae Province, to let the inhabitants drink clean and fresh spring water all the time.
Spring water of good quality finds its way to all the families in Hwanggumphyong-ri, Sindo County, North Phyongan Province, where water had been drawn from the mouth of Amnok River to be purified and disinfected for drinking and daily use.
The Workers' Party of Korea and the government of the DPRK, which regard the enhancement of the living standard of the people as the supreme principle of their activities, are taking positive measures to find more natural springs for the people.
And the springs are neatly arranged so that dwellers and passers-by can use clean water to the fullest measure.

U.S. Accused of Deliberately Straining Situation on Korean Peninsula

Pyongyang, March 21 (KCNA) -- The Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military exercises staged by the U.S. and the south Korean warlike forces recently were provocative maneuvers aimed at deliberately screwing up tension on the Korean Peninsula to drive the situation there to a crisis on the eve of the outbreak of war, says Rodong Sinmun Friday in a signed article.
After the end of the Cold War the U.S. took measures to partially cut down their troops in some regions of the world. But it has put spurs to the moves to round off the preparations for another Korean war by ceaselessly beefing up its aggression forces in and around the peninsula, the article says, and goes on:
The U.S. imperialists still seek to invade the DPRK by force of arms and put the whole of Korea under their control. To this end, they are leaving no means untried to invent a pretext for materializing the above-said scenario.
Whenever there mounted an atmosphere for detente and reunification on the peninsula, the U.S. warlike forces resorted to undisguised moves to vitiate it and fabricated shocking incidents, driving the situation to an extreme pitch of tension.
It is the U.S. strategic calculation that it is essential to seize Korea in order to put Asia under its control and doing so would help carry out its Asia strategy and, furthermore, the world strategy with ease.
The above-said provocative war maneuvers designed to invade the DPRK were prompted by such strategic objective.
The U.S. trigger-happy forces are now raising a hue and cry over the fictitious "missile threats" from the DPRK. This is aimed to secure a pretext necessary for mounting a military attack on the DPRK.
The one-sided hard-line policy toward the DPRK being pursued by them in contravention of the spirit of the six-party talks is aimed at pushing the situation on the peninsula to the phase of acute confrontation.
Their desperate efforts to provoke a new war on the peninsula in a bid to stifle the DPRK would get them nowhere. Preemptive strike is not a monopoly of the U.S.
The U.S. warlike forces had better drop their one-sided hard-line policy towards the DPRK and stop reckless military actions of harassing peace and security of the Korean Peninsula and thus fulfill their responsibility and commitments for the settlement of the issue of the peninsula.

Implementation of Inter-Korean Declarations Urged in S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 21 (KCNA) -- The "June 15 singled-minded mountainous association for reunification" made up of different civic and public organizations in south Korea, including the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration, the April Revolution Society and the Reunification Plaza, had a lecture meeting in Seoul on March 16.
Speakers there accused the anti-reunification forces of intensifying the suppression of pro-reunification forces by dint of the "National Security Law (NSL)" these days, creating a terror-ridden atmosphere. They assailed the present "government" for pursuing a policy of submitting to the U.S., thereby blocking the development of the inter-Korean relations.
Noting that all inter-Korean exchanges and contacts should serve the purposes of national reconciliation and independent reunification, they called upon all the people to unite as one and thoroughly implement the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and thus achieve the reunification of the country so that a reunified country may be handed down to the generations to come.

Moves to Revive Military Dictatorial Regime Assailed in S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 21 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration in south Korea made public a statement on March 17 in denunciation of the authorities' moves to revive the military dictatorial regime.
The statement recalled that the security authorities declared on March 15 that they would create a new "team which specializes in arrest" to be hurled into scenes of demonstrations and this plan was strongly "encouraged" by the present "government". This fact is creating big uproar in society, it added.
The statement bitterly denounced the "government" and the security authorities for their moves to revive the repressive mechanism, contending that the above-said team is little different from the "Paekgol (skull) team" which earned ill-fame during the period of the military dictatorship.
The security authorities have already clarified their tough stand to take such legal actions against demonstrators including the "use of tools for electric shock torture" and "introduction of summary trial system," the statement noted, charging that the present "government" is working hard to create a terror-ridden atmosphere and revive the military dictatorship regime as soon as it came to power.
The "government" and the security authorities keen to use iron bars for cracking down upon people will never escape judgment of history, it warned.

Attending the gathering were personages and members of the Addis Ababa Youth and Sports Committee, the Addis Ababa Youth Association and the Youth Group for the Study of the Juche Idea of Ethiopia and the DPRK ambassador and staff members of his embassy there.
Speeches were made at the gathering.
The chairperson of the Addis Ababa Youth and Sports Committee said that President Kim Il Sung rendered great services for the accomplishment of the cause of global independence, adding that he made a lot of efforts to boost the friendly and cooperative relations between Ethiopia and the DPRK.
The vice-chairperson of the Addis Ababa Youth Association said that visiting the DPRK, they were greatly encouraged to see the Korean youth performing great feats in socialist construction sites, closely rallied around General Secretary Kim Jong Il. The speaker declared that the association would make sustained efforts to boost the friendship and solidarity with the Korean people in the future, too.
